  • 96-97 crate longblock into a 94 GTP. Please Help!

New here, just registered to be able to post after hours of scouring posts as a read-only guest. I have read everything I can find on this subject, and appears I can carry over my intake and plenum from my 94 DOHC to the 96 longblock. I also plan to use the 94 coil pack and wires on the 96-97 longblock. My question is, even though the exhaust ports are different on the heads, can I make do with my 94 exhaust manifolds on the 96-97 heads? I know i may create some restriction in doing so, but I don't care at this point, I just have to get the car running again and moved from the front of my friends garage. Also, Im aware of the knock sensor difference, but other then that, do all the sensors have the correct plugs to allow the 96-97 engine to plug up to all the connectors on the 94's OBD I wiring or am i getting into a long, drawn out project here? Thank you all for any and all replies, thoughts, and insight!

You'll need the new exhaust manifolds. If you keep your current intake manifold, I believe the only connector to worry about is for the EGR.

it should all bolt up. i know a guy with a '91 gp that had a '96-97 block/heads and old style intakes. if your reusing your '94 harness they your egr should work if your using your old intake mani's. you will need the '96-97 exhaust mani's like tim said i believe. The ports on the '96-97 heads are different shape and larger so the old exhaust mani's won't work if i remember correctly. if your running the '94 wiring harness they you shouldnt have any problems. its nearly the same block most of the changes is in the heads and intakes. the '96+ dohc is setup for 2 knock sensors, you may have to plug the front one scense your car now only runs the rear 1.

The other difference too is the crank sensor

I forget without looking at the 96' block I have IF there is a hole on the right side of the block to use the 95' and older crank sensor.
