  • Vegeta, EGR off...

Ben, a guy up here was trying to tell me that having the EGR turned off with the chip will cause the heads to run warmer than usual and can actually hinder performance. When driving I do notice that the coolant temp is a little hotter with the chip in. What's your take on this?
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

It does run higher temp in the combustion chamber because the EGR gas is used to cool off the incoming charge by adding inert gas that doesn't burn. I don't know about it hindering performance, I havent ran a dyno comparison. The EGR is off at WOT stock as well, so either way its the same at wot. With it off, you wont have the back of the intake valves getting a carbon buildup on them. Hotter combustion chamber is only bad for performance when you have hot spots....and pre-ignition. I dont think we have to worry about that.

The car will warm up faster, but the stat and fans should still regulate the engine temp just like before. My car doesnt run any warmer, just heats up faster.
