  • 90 lumina 3.1 stumbles,stalls

    I have a 1990 lumina 3.1 auto,original owner,165,000 miles.
    car starts,runs a little rough,put in gear,hesitates,stumbles at stops signs,after 10-15 mins of running/driving,it dies.
sometimes it starts right up,sometimes it has to sit 10-20 mins before it restarts.
colder weather it will run a little longer then if its warmer out.
    the fuel filter was clean/clear,
turned key on with filter removed, can hear pump whine,a slight trickle of fuel runs out of line from tank.
crank eng. fuel comes out the line from engine.
is the fuel suppose to be a strong blast from tank line when you turn key on?

It would be if the pump is holding it's prime. On older pumps the check valve may be weak and let the fuel drain back which would not give up a good shot on initial key on. If you cycled it a couple times you should get a good shot. What I look for is a decent stream from the fuel return which is after the regulator. This confirms that the pump is putting out enough pressure and volume to run the engine. Of course, it would be safer to use a pressure gauge and check the volume at pressure.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda
