Then cross reference the numbers on an auto parts website for the same temp stats and see if the PN matches

yeah, I could probably find out pretty easily. I was just wondering if someone could give me a quick yes or no. I'll go online later and find out.

          06 Malibu 3.5L - AC Delco, PN 131124 [OEM PN 24507563]

          And as a reality check...

          00 Impala 3.4L - AC Delco, PN 131124 [OEM PN 24507563]

I was initially going with Jon on this one, that they would be the same, but it appears they are not.

            Thanks Brad!

Looks like I'll be adding a thermostat to the build list.

            Now what about spark plugs?

I'm tempted to just get some NGK's for an 06 Impala but I was wondering if anyone knew a recommended brand/model? Also... spark plug gap?

I think I should just pick up a haynes manual... then again, I'd have to get one for the 3500 AND 3400 =(

I'll probably need them both when actually assembling the parts into the motor.

I like NGK or Delco Rapidfires. The stock Iridiums in the newer engines (like the 3500) are supposed to be pretty good plugs. My only beef with most replacement plugs is they leak between the ceramic and the metal (indicated by the blackish brownish soot you see on the ceramic above the metal when you pull them out). I've hardly ever had a set that DID NOT leak, and it irritates me. I know it's not a lot being lost through there, but it's something still being lost and combustion byproducts being put where they aren't intended too.

allright, guess I'll just swing by advance auto and see what kind of plugs they have for an 06 malibu.

maybe i can get my thermostat there too

OK so it looks like I can get at advance auto:

                  Head bolts

                  LIM bolt set

and AC delco plugs (my personal favorite)

for a little under 90$ total.

They had thermostats but they were all stock temp 195

                  I'll have to check summit

Will these valve covers work? They are for a 1996 3100 pontiac, but they look exactly like the 3400 and 3500 valve covers.

                      Are they all interchangeable?'

ok here is one I've been trying to figure out...

here is a picture of a 3500 LIM

That metal tube running along the center is the heater hose tube is it not?

How the heck am I suppose to connect that to my current heater hose? When you flip the 3500 LIM around so that the thermostat is at the front of the motor this makes the heater hose tube exit at the rear of the engine on the passenger side. Anyone who has seen a 3.4 iron head knows that the heater hose is at the front of the accessory bracket.

I will try to find a picture if need be.

Is it possible to run a hose all the way back there? I don't get it.

To illustrate my point here is a picture of a similar 3.4/3500 build.

I have highlighted the heater hose inlet in RED so you can see how it is at the front of the engine bay. What should I do? Just run a long enough radiator hose all the way to the rear of the motor?

Where does the rest of that tube go to? If it goes to the heater core it leads to the firewall, at the rear of the engine bay, possibly on the passenger side. It's safe to run a decent run of rubber reinforced heater hose if you have to, as long as it's secured and not stretched tight so the drivetrain doesn't rip it loose.
