  • Software Update Complete!

Ok, we are now up and running the most recent version of phpBB (2.0.19). This provides us with the most secure forum possible, which is always a good thing.

If you didn't even know we updated the software (be noticing the site being unavailable lastnight), then good. If you did notice, well sorry for the inconvenience, but we should be up and running again.

I've added a few new features as well during the upgrade. I don't have time right now to go through all of them, but you may notice some changes in how things work now. Maybe during my lunch break I can try to explain all of them.

On a different note, I have restored the old database, and have begun moving some of the old articles over. It might take me alittle while to get all of them copied over, but it is being worked on, so bear with us just a little bit longer.

Ok, there might have been an issue with some people getting an error that a template file was missing. I think I figured out and fixed the error. I wasn't getting the error, so I didn't know where to even begin looking. But I stumbled across a setting by accident (the setting was added with one of the new modifications), so hopefully that will fix the error.

Thanks to tejohnson for being up early this morning and telling me the error existed (even though I didn't believe you ).

Well, I was working on getting other content up on the site, so my lunch hour has diminished significantly!! But I'll try to sum up some of the mods that I have added.

Quick Reply - I'm not sure about the rest of you, but the old quick reply was just too damn ugly and big for me. There are so many different quick reply mods out there that I didn't want to have to try them all to find one I liked. Luckily, this was the first one I tried and I am very pleased with it. It will be normally hidden until you hit the Quick Reply button to keep the forum neat and clean until you want to post. It also has a ton of options that make creating a post very quick and easy. Always a plus!

Auto Redirect - After you posted, you used to have to click a link to where you wanted to go. Kind of annoying, although it did have some advantages. But, now it will just automatically redirect you to your new post. Easy enough I'd say.

Knowledge Base - This isn't really too new, although I just added it over the New Year's weekend. This will be acting as our Content Management System. Quick, easy and fully integrated with phpBB. I am currently in the process of trying to get all the articles back up and hope to have everything done in the next week or 2.

Portal - Easy put, it is the front page and the side menus. Not really much more to say about that except it gives us the look we are used to and the navigation that the site needs.

Image Resize - Ever have a post that contains an image too big for the post? And then it makes you scroll over for all the posts in the entire thread. One of my biggest pet-peaves. Not anymore! Program automatically resizes the picture to fit your current screen size (even 640x480!). The full size pic then becomes a link, so if you really have the urge to look at a bolt in a 20"x30" picture, you still can.

Profile Control Panel - I still don't think I know all the tweaks to this thing. All I can say is, check out your profile and see what you can do. Fill out what you want (birthday, email, phone numbers, etc) and leave what you don't want people to see blank. This also gives the option of ignoring users which I think some people might find useful. Unfortunately, since I'm an admin I can't ignore anyone so I can't test this one out. But you can pick "buddies" directly from a post (there is a FRIEND button under each post now to allow you to make the poster one of your buddies). Like I said, I still don't know everything that it can do.

There are a couple of other mods as well, but they are mainly just to make Ben and my life's easier in modifying the site. I'm still looking at more mods that might make things easier, more user-friendly, or just to make the site better and more useful. As I add them, I'll keep everyone up to date.

Thanks for sticking with us as we continue to try and make this site the best it can be!

Try it:P Actually, see if you can ignore anyone cause moderators shouldn't be allowed to either IMO.

Tried to ignore myself, but I just keep coming back.

Ya gotta fix the time thing. Everytime I log on, I get the % stuff, and have to go to profile to fix it. But at least I'm not pink! :P

registration error (database not set up right?)

registration doesn't work, mySQL is looking for a session_robot column and can't find it...

Ok, fixed the registering problem. Sorry about that! When I moved the test site over to the new server, I thought I had caught all of the SQL changes, but obviously I missed 1.

One more tiny little problem. PMs. I seem to have to log in a lot, even if I save it.

You have to be outa breath by now. No wonder you need people to work on your house. :P

And again, no support link for the site.

Are you saying you have to log in to check PMs whenever you visit the site? There shouldn't be a difference between being logged in for the forum and being logged in for PMs. If you are having to log in all the time for the site itself, only thing I can think of is trying clearing out your cookies. I haven't encountered this problem (at home or at work), so its hard for me to troubleshoot it.

As for the support the site link... I had a mod for a PayPal donation, and it was supposed to keep track of donators and such, but it didn't. It did take the money just fine though. I can probably put it back up and just not worry about the tracking of donations.

The logging in issue must be me.

The reason I need the donation link, is, I had to change bank accounts, and it stopped all recurring payments in PayPal. So, as of now, I am not a donating member. And we can't have that.
