  • topic - 1988 w-body MAF to MAP - add to main page?

I think this would be a useful topic for people with 88 2.8L w-body cars with MAF sensor who want to convert it to just use the MAP:

W-body cars from 1988 had a MAP and a MAF- the MAFs are crap and break all the time. Get rid of it by getting a couple parts from the wreckers and no more expensive MAFs to replace, and possibley added performance.

    1. Swap the memcal prom from a 2.8 of a similar car with same powertrain from 1989 (or one that doesn't have a MAF on it).

    2. Get a newer style rectangle shaped airbox from a newer 2.8 or 3.1.

    3. Remove the MAF and old airbox, connect new box to intake hose.

    4. The new airbox should have a MAT sensor on it with 2 wires, in which you will need to connect to the matching color set of wires from the old MAF sensor (3 wires will be left over).

    5. (I haven't got there yet because I haven't been able to drive my car to see if it needs it) getting a newer transmission speed sensor(?)

Anyways, I just thought this would be a good think to have on the main page as I had to ask lots of people and it was a bit of a PITA.

The only thing you have to do is replace the memcal, remove the MAF, and wire in the IAT anywhere into the intake path.

I can add this to the computer section, since it isn't W body specific.

I think it would be good because its a popular topic and I had to hunt down posts at w-body and ask lots of people.

            Thanks
