  • comment on GMforums in general (and the new 60Degree V6)

GMForums was great and I spent alot of time.. too much time.. looking at:
    w-body
    j-body
    Pontiac
    and V6 engine forums.
I spent hours looking through stuff that could have took less time. To many different forums.

I think we should stick with just the 60* V6 engine forums here to keep for easy navigation and less stress for the moderators.
I don't know the numbers, but I know that there was tons of traffic in THIS particular area. The 90* area was so dead that I once recommended someone with a 3800 come here for general advice (so that they could get some!).

I think my main concern is that we have a stable forum (community) with new owners/moderators that aren't going to bail out (ESPECIALLY WITHOUT NOTICE!!)

I'll keep y'all posted with any ideas I have.

The ONLY forum areas I went to in GMF were 60*V6 and W-Body. I guess thats why I was a shitty moderator.

I don't think so, considering that half of the forum was used, and the other half was F/B-body. Fare-the-well GMflourums!

I do wish there was a place here somewhere for 3rd gen j-bodies.. they generated some traffic and are very popular cars.

I guess we could still talk about that kinda stuff in off-topic?

I am keeping this 60V6 only. Now, if someone wants to swap a 3400 into a 3rd gen, we are all for that

I don't wish to dwell on GMF, as I spent a lot of time on that site trying to make it a better place for everyone. Now I can focus on this site 100% but the software is new to me and no where as nice as the vbulletin we were on.

This is from that link that Rhedalert posted. Said by LunaticSS, aka John, site admin of GMF
I sold it. To some guy in Cali who from what I have for information and started to make changes is in Victoria Australia.

Why it was sold. Bottom line. The site was useless. It had its points, but lets take a look at some facts.

Forums: 60v6, bbody, olds and OT as well as a few more were the only ones getting action.

Moderators: Shall I delve into that one? Where do I start. The new mods here do more for this site than any of the mods on GMF ever did. Mods on all my other sites actually read the forums they belong to and then some. They take part in the activity of the site. GMF mods, well as I have been quoted to say. They were a bunch of lazy ****. Plain and simple. Most only wanted a title. There were the exceptions and they did things for the site and their areas, but that was a rarity

Bottom line: When the site has been for sale for almost a year and I get payment wiretransfered to my account the same day, while I was speaking to the guy, that is a good reason to sell it. He requested that I just shut it down. So I did.

Now people are going to try to compare this to SSF and what we had going. That is far from reality as possible. If we really want to drag SSF and their non payment issues into it we can, but the facts remain that it was not anything like SSF, even though there are those that will say it is. let them dream their little dream.

Did it affect a ton of people? Maybe so, but the bottom line is this. There is no reason to continue to feed or run a business/site/whatever that is not making any valued returns on your investment. Why continue to run a site that is losing money and only is supported by the other sites that I own and run? That only affects those other sites such as this place. Why should I take money and resources away from this place or any other just to make a few people happy? I am denying the members here the $ and resources that could be used to upgrade this site, better this site and make it more appealing; but I was having to sink those same dollars into a site that was nothing more than just a burden and had no return on investment.

Should I have given a warning? Please. Everyone that was on that site KNEW i was looking to sell it. Everyone that had a vested interest in their "club" forums knew i was looking to sell. It was a heated topic on the site when it was close to a finalized deal earlier this year, but to only have the buyer back out and not send payment.

Was I an ass? Probably so, but I had more vested in that site than any mod, super mod or reg user. Did I go off on the mods. Sure I did. I told them flat out how I felt, why i felt that way and what they can go and do if they did not feel that they could do the same as the mods on all other sites I run. Now we get them crying on other sites, bitching and moaning that i was an evil man, pissed that I closed their section and site that they had a "title" in. None of them, with the exception of a few oldtimers, did anything but complain about how they didn't think they should have to do anything. Lets look at an example here. Mods on here take an active roll in this site and how it is run. I gave that same freedom to mods on GMF. What did they do. Nothing. Mods on here give input on how to run the site and even create things such as pages, newsletters, informational pieces you name it. What did they do on GMF? Complain that they have to go to another section of the forum and participate. Complain about how their section did not get enough posts for them to even come on the site. Looks like they failed the site. Ohh but wait they are not paid employee's. So niether are the mods here or on anyother site I run. They do it for the passion of the vehicle they drive, the site they belong too and the members to gain more information and knowledge, something that was too much for the mods on GMF to even comprehend it seems like. GMF got the same freedoms as this site or any of the other sites I run. They just failed to capitalize on the potential.

In closing. I did what I felt was necessary for myself and my company. I dont expect that anyone would run a site just to let it die. I invested well over 3 years in that site. From money to time and got nothing in return, but a few good friendships. Learning experience? Yes it is. Am I ashamed of it? No I am not. Am i ashamed that I closed it? No I am not and really dont understand why people are so damn uptight over something that they dont even own.
If I open my mouth on that one I'll get arrested or deported or banned or killed or something. Discretion is the better part of valor for me here. *shuts mouth*

I think he's probably got alot more enemies than friends right now.

He has quite the nerve to say that he didn't have to tell us (his valuable members) he was shutting it down, that we should have already known. I sure would have at least appriciated an email telling us whats going on, instead of having him insult us on his other forums. Some of us were only interested in talking about cars, not the politics of the site. Isn't that why we were there?

He says that he invested over 3 years into GMF, and it was the longest out of all his sites and was pulling him down. I think he'll probably have the same thing happen with his other sites.

Anyways thats all the bitching I'm gonna do, cause I'd just like to see that this place survives and improves.

GMF produced ~200 new posts a day for the last month, whereas 2 of his other sites produced over 1000 new posts a day for the same time period. And I really don't think the other sites are going to falter anytime soon...

Can we please quit discussing this now? It's over and done with, so let's just bury it and concentrate on making this site better.

I agree with keeping this a w-body/60 degree V6 site. I really liked EFI street for that.

well there are a ton of GM vehicles with 6 60s in them, w-bodies would have to be the most popular, at least the older ones.. N-bodies got the 3.1/3100/3400 as well. So its really gotta be about all the cars.
