  • Site Glossary

In order to help people out with some of the abbreviations used on the site, I have added yet another mod to the site - a glossary. Some people may have noticed this already (I think I had EGR and knock sensor entered). Whenever one of these items appears in a thread (ie, EGR), the word becomes a link. If you mouse-over it, you get a brief description of the item. When you click on it, it brings you to the glossary page giving the full description. Some words (see below) may only have a few word description.

I have added the rest of the sensors that are currently in our detailed sensor description page. I will soon be added some other common automotive terms (ECM, ECU, PCM, SFI, MPFI, etc), as well as Internet acronyms (HTH, FWIW, IMO, etc). If anyone has ideas for things they think would be useful in the glossary, please let me know and I will get them added.

I just found a slight flaw, and have brought it to the attention of the developers. If the word has a parentheses in front of it, it will not be picked up (see ECM and HTH in the above post).

I am never saying E CM again. I like a glossary but not the auto linking nature of it.

Hmm... I wonder if there is a way to limit it to only 1 occurrence of the link per thread? Yeah, there are threads that can get kind of full of links depending on the conversation... I can turn off the auto linking (I think).

Im thinking off would be better. If they don't know, they can ask or google or search here and find our glossary.
