  • How to change the alternator

Hopefully you know how to pull a rim off the hub. Here is the starting point for changing out the alternator.

I think its a T-60 to get the bolts off the brakes. You need to pull the brakes off to have enough room.

These are what the 2 bolts look like holding the front brakes on

    And the rotor with it.

Get the brake out of the way. You can pull it completely but then you have to bleed the brakes.

This is the shield you need to remove in order to get at the alt. I dont recall the bolt sizes but 8mm sounds right.

    Same shield.

With the shield gone, you can see the CV joint as well as the shield on the auto tranny (manual is different)

I think is trying to show the bolts to get the shield off the tranny.

Probably just a better picture of those bolts.

Lifting up on the control arm some. You will have to remove the axle. This is a LOT easier than pulling a CV joint or whatever other instructions say to do.

4 15mm bolts hold the hub in on the back side. You can pull the axle right through there.

Getting at the bolts holding the CV joint shield.

    Same shield, different pic.

Pulling the axle out. You can use a small prybar or a screw driver. It will pop out with a little force. Its pretty simple once you get an angle on it.

The axle out of the car.

Here you can see the alternator. We already removed the accessories belt and there is a wrench on the bolt showing you where its at.

I had to take a picture of this. This is how you get to the bolt at the top of the alternator.

This bolt is a lot of fun!

Better picture of what you are trying to get at.

And now from underneath the car. I will say that it was impossible to take a picture of the bracket on the backside of the alternator. I will have to find a diagram in one of my books to stick between this picture and the next.

And there it is off the engine.

And im sure this is what everyone does once its out of the car.
