  • 60 v6 gm marine applications dont exsist!

Contrary to former belief I have found no proof of a mercruiser 60 degree v6 gm sterndrive nor are there any 60 degree v6 gm outboards!

The Mercury 60 degree v6 is not a GM , its a 2 stroke! I go to school at Marine Mechanics institute , have been there since may. I am in a computer class now and have access to all mercury and mercruiser engine models.

Unless someone else has proof I say there never was a gm 60 v6 made to go in a boat unless it was an small shop deal or a custom job. The GM engines I have seen is the iron duke, the 4.3 , 305 5.7 and the big blocks, all stern drive / Jet drives.

Hey some weird thing too, volvo uses chevy 350's and 454's in the marine industry. Volvo is owned by ford.

Also Mercruiser has GM sterndrives but it also has the alpha 5.0 , yup a ford 5.0 h.o.

um...what? We have a thread showing a 60V6 boat app, and there is a site that has a few HP rated 60V6 models for boats as well. I wasn't aware anyone was saying GM made a marine version. Its been done though. I guess this whole topic confuses me.

No I posted in the wrong section , I used to think without certainty that there were 2.8 v6 stern drive motors available like the carbureted and tbi 4.3 Mercruiser. And I thought I remeber talking to a few people about the gm 60 degree v6 being used by mercruiser, but as I found out almost positively that it was never produced. Move the thread to off topic maybe?

I have seen the 3.4 stern drive link page that was on here. My point is before I was attending MMI I belived that a GM 60 v6 was probably a production mercruiser at some time, I didnt know anything about the marine field before I went to school for it lol.

Those are the only ones im aware of. My friends are into boats but couldn't give a shit less about a V6. One of my friends uncles put some V12s in a boat and everyone in the area has heard of him. As you can tell, I don't give a shit about boats so I have no real memory for the details:P

Well boat engine technology is about to turn a corner. Boat engine technology is somewhat behind the times, but there is alot of area for improvement and plenty of money to be made servicing them.
Govt mandatory for catylitic converters is not until 2010. Talk about behind the times!

Mercury put out the worlds first supercharged outboard this year. Its called the verado and I belive it uses an eaton supercharger. In a few years there will be some nice developments in the marine industry.

I would like to buy a 35 hp four stroke suzy or honda and fab up a rotrex supercharger and take it to the miami international boat show.

I have done a MFI 3.1 in a boat, it has a problem with no O2 sensor feedback and no VSS but it will run. would be better with an ECM remap to overfuel a wee bit more. You have to run closed cooling so the water does not eat up the heads/intake.

It has 4 cyl size and weight, but 4.3 power with economy in the middle. with the right heads and cam from GM it makes 225ish hp - good for smaller boats in the 17-18 ft range.

Oh my... Why can't the production 496 have that kind of power? Sweet Jesus, to have that in my Suburban...

Boats get to have all the fun...

EDIT: Also, upon further inspection, it would appear that there are no 60V6's available.
