  • Plenum design....

I enjoyed the article about plenum design. I am a sculpter and was think thinking about designing a one-piece out of clay and then making a mold of it in plaster. Then I would form it with fiberglass with thick flanges for ridgity. It would be tall and would need a 3 in. cowl. Like a high rise maifold. What do you think?

I contemplated that idea a couple years back when I first started tinkering with a new plenum design. In fact, I had actually carved a new design out of a piece of foam so that I could fiberglass over it. Once it was fiberglassed, I was planning on getting something that would just dissolve the foam inside and then build up the fiberglass more. I ditched the idea though (can't remember why)....

That something used to melt the foam would be gasoline Does anyone know the side effect of doing this?

PB Blaster also melts foam aswell... however the most efficient means of melting foam would probably be acetone.

          Melting foam?

I don't think that is needed. You would have to create a 2 - peice manifold cast of the manifold. I was thinking a form could be made out of welded aluminum. Then fiberglass would be poured into it. I will continue later...got to run to take a job application.

              Bringing up an old subject....

Ok. I have a little bit of money for a project. Does anyone know off hand, with the use of a desktop dyno, preferable runner size and length for a 3100 engine with stock cam?

desktop dyno doesnt take into account runner length or diameter or for that matter plenum size to an extent

What powerband are you wanting and what mods to the motor? Its mostly a trial and error deal but you can get get an idea of where to start at least. What sort of power output are you looking for?

                        A starting point would be....

....with the stock motor. So I would need stock numbers.
