  • 3.1 build up

i'm in the middle of building a 3.1 RWD for a prodject car i'm shooting for somthing close to 300HP heres what i have so far tel me what you think.

3.1 lowerend stock with arp bolts and shot peened polished rods
    3.5 Heads
    3.5 LIM
custom Upper intake made to mount 2 44mm sidedrafts
cam from crower or lunuti with redline set at 7000rpm peak at around 6500
custom long tube headers with primarys around 28-32"
electromtive HPX or XPI DIS ignition
and a lightweight flywheel like 8-12lbs

the engine will only have to run the alt and water pump, and will be mounted to in custom built car i will be porting the heads and intake a little to clean up the castings and gasket match so tell me what you all think.

What kinda compression ratio you looking for?
If it won't go, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

cam specs? you will have to do more than a little porting to get 300 HP. Bare minimum, at least a stage II job. What ECM are you planning on running. If not an aftermarket--megasquirt or haltech, well, good luck tuning.

high compression somthing like 11.5, the 3500 heads flow plenty to support 300 hp and i'm just shooting for somthing around that number 275hp would be plenty. i'll look up cam spec tonight and see if i can post them, duration is somewhere wround 290 overall.

that should get you close... i'm shooting for similar numbers with a 3400/3500 hybrid with about 12:1, 560 or so lift cam, longtube headers etc...

you running a roller cam or a flat tappet? Would be easier if you went with a roller cam for making power.

I wouldnt' mind seeing pics of how you modified for the intake for the carbs.

Good call on the ignition, and the entire setup.. im wondering if ur steeling my ideas outa my head.. kuss i have been planning the same attack for a wile for my next engine... But if u use iron head 2.8L pistons they will be flat top and you could clear 12:1 compression, witch would put you well on ur way to 300, but if this is going into a tube-framer then I suggest instead of using dcoe side drafts witch are still great carbs, mabye go with 3 32-34mm downdraft IDA's and run them individualy to each cyl just kuss you could tune further with that setup opposed to having an open plenum and only 2 barrels for each bank.. and if you have money leaking out of ur ass then you mays well use my idea of having 2 tripple throat IDA or IDTP weber's on each bank.. witch would give you enough flow and tune ability to get you over 300hp, But I wanna here more about this car ur building too!!
              These are the tripple throat's

i will be running a flat tapet cam, also i have decided to go with fuel injection insead of carbs, i can run injection for less than carbs, so the motor will be controlled by a megasquirt 2 im just trying to decide wether to build a custom upper intake or modify a stock 3500, 3400 with a custom thorttle body and some porting what do you think.

if a custom intake has to do with welding the aluminum they use stock on these engine's,, DONT!!!! so u mays well juss use a 3500.. or if ur going to juss fuel inject it anyway juss goto a junkyard and buy an ecm hook it all up.. then ur really savin money and fuel... you will have drive/tuneability and a slightly de-tuned 12.5:1 compression 3100 because ur using a flat cam instead of the modern rollers..
when it comes to swaps&buildups ive done with the whole sixtsix crew I can 100% say that sometimes spending a little extra money and building somthing alittle extra crazy gets alot more attention... but dont take it from me.. I spent 160$ on my car originaly... 2000nn,some$ later I get offerd 5000$ for somthing I couldent possibaly let go
