  • 2.8/3.4L stroker engines

    does anyone know what is involved in the creation of a 2.8/3.4L stroker engine? i've got a spare 2.8, and a spare 3.4 so i want to combine them, i know it's been done i just need to know what actually get changed. i belive that the 2.8 is bored to the 3.4l diameter but do you use a 2.8 crank? what about the rods? someone help please!

    i really dont think that you can bore the 2.8 to 3400
    i know the 3100 cannot be bored to 3400
    this is what i hear anyways

    not sure what makes the stroker
    id like to know too

      put the 2.8 crank in the 3.4 block and order up some custom pistons.... 3.0 stroker


      make sure you replace ALL the bearings and use some good rods, that thing will scream past 8K RPM easy...

        so just get some light 3.4 pistons? what length are rods, longer than the normal 2.8s right? what kind of power am i looking at?

          I found a Boneville supercharger in the junkyard the other day, is there any way to put that on a sixty*?

            no, you'll need custom ordered pistons, the 3.4 pistons aren't tall enough. You'll end up with like 7.5:1 compression...lol

            what kind of 3.4 is this, RWD Camaro engine?

            If so then i'll buy the stock pistons from you, i need them for a project...

              sorry, no it's a minivan engine. where would i get the custom pistons? i keep standard length 2.8 rods? do you know anywhere i can get more info, any sites?

                The car in question is more than likely a Beretta, using a van's SFI engine.

                The SC idea could work with a lot of fabrication and then you'd have a big SC sticking out of the hood.

                  yeah, i guess the SC is a little big. yeah, it is a beretta. the 3400 block can bolt up to a getrag FWD 5 speed right? i could still use my 2.8 flywheel right?

                    Yep, in this case i'd strongly suggest just bolting the 3400 in the car.

                      my car is OBD1, can i still use the old computer with the new block and heads? i know that it will need a reprogram to adjust timing and A/F ratio.

                            you could try Sealed Power, Ross, JE just to name a few. JE charges around $110 per piston which is high end. i got a quote from Ross Pistons for around $550 for all six, not including wrist pins or rings.
