You can't use a distributor with the aluminum heads. It just won't fit. You would have to switch back to the iron heads and intakes to use the distributor.

You must be planning a distributor that sits a lot higher than stock. Both the gen2 and gen3 lower intakes I have are the interference problem. The intake runner on cylinder #5 comes out a little further rearward, and pointed higher than on the iron heads. It must have been some aftermarket carb or efi intake for it to work. I would like to see some pics of that.

Actually, I was thinking more like a roller cam/lifter in the RWD iron V6 block, Gen III Al heads, and a custom base/runner/plenum setup... so why won't the roller lifters fit in the rwd block? Aren't the 3x00 roller lifters just tied together, with a bar between 2 of them?
Doward. The cam itself will fit in the block, the lifters will fit in the bores, there is no provision for lifter retainer attachment, but the biggest problem is the oiling system.
On genI and II blocks there are 2 oil galleys, one for the left bank of lifters, one for the right bank of lifters, and with this oiling design it cross feeds, and the left bank is actually the first area to get oil after the filter. The genIII block has 3 oil galleys, one for the left lifter bank, one for the right lifter bank and a third for the cam and IIRC crank oiling. This changes the way the block is oiled and limits the amount of oil to the lifter galleys, since roller lifters need less oil, and at this point, I don't know of an easy way to make an hydraulic roller lifter work in the earlier blocks, since if you were to place oil limiters (flow reducers) in the lifter galley feed, you would be limiting the rest of the oiling system as well.
The gen3 lifter retainer is not like the aftermarket set-ups like you are thinking. There is actually only 2 "bars", one for the left bank and one for the right bank. It sits on the block, and holds the lifters straight, due to the shape of the top of the lifter and the same shape in the retainer.
He could always get the aluminum block from GM performance parts. It has 3 oil galleys. Of course, that might raise the price of his project a wee bit.

Fits ALL applications. Every combo is possible witht that block. Just think if you get tired of it in your Grand Prix you can take it and put it in your S-10. Then one day you find a sweet 94z24 and you can just take it and swap her right in.
Would anyone here care to give up a set of those useless 3100 roller lifters? I need some bad, please reply to SBNova@Yahoo.com with a quantity and price.
