  • 3400 performance

i am looking at upgrading my 02 3400 in my GA for more power. I am currently looking at the stage 1 kit from milzy plus a bigger TB from the 60degree store, and a custom tuner from DHP and the moly rods from milzy. are there any bottom end upgrades that may be available for me to get. I am looking for forged pistons but dont know who to go with. I have already built my trans (4T45E) for more power, but am looking for an LSD for it. I saw an article in the last HPP(high performance pontiac) mag that showed a S/C grand am with one from EP, but i dont know who that is. I want a weekend warrior with good streetability and enough power to make the stock rustang gts look like chumps, but stay NA for now, ill boost later when i have the time and more patience to tune it.

EP is engineeredperformance.net you dont have to upgrade to forged pistons just yet. they will be good when you run boost but are not required for n/a. you can also swap to a 3500 UIM and the 65mm throttle body from the store here. get a good exhaust setup (headers, full piping, muffler) and then have it tuned and you will have precent decent setup

well i know about the foged pistons, im just looking so i can have it for later on when i do boost. thanks though. also thank u for the site. i was also lookin for a stall converter, pro torque used to make one, but i guess they stopped cuz i keep trying to contact them and get no response. i do have a descent exhaust right now, borla cat back, and a "high flow" cat so to speak. i have heard mixed reviews about the headers and i dont want to have any burned wires, so ill wait to hear back on that. so will the 3500 UIM fit on like the ported LIM from this store also? and i was lookin at the big bore tb too. i already have a "factory freak" right now and am happy with the minor mods i have right now, but want more. thanks and if there is anything else, just let me know

Wait for the 3500 top end swap kit to be done. Thats where the future is for performance pushrod setups.

            Probably
            Ported/Polished:
Upper/Lower Intake, Heads, TB, & cam kit?
Lifting my front wheels, one jack at a time.

3500 heads, lower intake, 3400 fuel rail, modified FPR setup, modified 3500 plenum, plenum spacers, possibly some adapters for the DIS bracket mounts though it doesn't hurt it to not bolt it down to the plenum, possibly the complete vacuum line setup needed though its easy to get rubber hose and T fittings as well.

also what will the compression ratio be on my 3400 with the 3500 heads on it? and what other options are there so far on the 3500 heads, like vavles and such.

If you want to use stock 3500 heads with ported and modded 3500 plenum and plenum port matched lower intake, I would guess the parts plus conversion parts and 65mm TB would be around $1000, possibly less.

I am still figuring out pricing for ported heads, which will include the 3500 heads.

edit, pricing largely depends on what you pay for the heads and manifolds. Exhaust manifolds are also going to be a factor, or headers.

ok so then the option for ported 3500 heads would be an option for the kit? and would u take my entire old upper 3400 end as a core or not?

I no longer use cores. I might be interested in buying your setup but it depends on what you want for them. Like I said, the 3500 stuff is going to be the future so I am not sure how much the 3400 stuff is going to be worth. Im not saying its junk, as I can modify the 3400 stuff to flow very well. The 3500 design is just better and stock vs stock the 3500 destroys the 3400.

So any idea of the power gains from that? I have a 3100 that's in great shape and I want to get more power from.

I don't know that the 3100 has a large enough bore for the 3500 combustion chamber/gasket setup to work right. I won't guess on the power increase, but more than the gen 3 top end swap should be accurate Compression will go down unless you mill the heads. Its about 4cc bigger than a 3400 combustion chamber, but that also helps to explain the flow numbers.

do the stock 3500 heads come with roller lifters like the 3400 did? and if i buy stock length moly rods for the 3400 will they work with the 3500? also when u figure out the prices for the kit ill take a look and see what it includes and all and then give u a price for what i think mine is worth. of course i dont wanna lose my ass on them, but im def not gonna ask an outrageous price for them either, we can talk about that later, and does the 3400 fuel rail kit on the 3500 package come with an adjustable FPR or just modified with diff internals?
