  • Performance exhaust for 3.4L.

My exhaust will need reworked anyway to mate with the Firebird manifolds, so now is the time to change it all out. Calmini offers a cat-back package at 2.25" They don't list the 2.8L in the fit-list though, just the 86-91 2.3/2.6L and 92-97 3.2L.

I've noticed many of you have gone to 2.5". Will this 2.25" behind the stock cat be enough to match the 3.4L, or should I just have an exhaust shop do it all at once? When going to the exhaust shop, what should I be requesting? I don't want my truck to be excessively noisy, but somewhat louder than stock is acceptable.

It makes sense to change out the cat while we're here too. So same questions in that regard. Does anything specific come recommended?

I don't need to finest components in the world (nor can I afford them), just something that'll let the 3.4L flow.

you can most likely get custom exhaust at a shop at the same price as that.
id go witha high flow cat :P or remove it if semissions testing isnt done in your area

in regards to size, the smaller = more low end torque, but i dont think it s a huge gain
correct me someone if im wrong

I think it's techinically illegal to remove the cat from a vehicle that came equipped with one. We don't have emissions regs here, so it's not something anyone would check for. But I'm a good guy, I'll keep a cat on there anyway.

pshh no cats on any of my car.

i'd build my own exhaust cheaper that way. but i have a welder and a lil bit of tools

2.5 is how i'd go make the downpipe 2.5 as well to a high flow cat then to a muffler of ur choice

Ya no doubt, Rip the cat off!! then use 2.5inch with the muffler at the verry back opposed to half way threw, then you will get a nice sound and no rapping, Just remember that you can never over exhast somthing,( that is if you like to make Hp's instead of tourque..)

Well this is a truck, so torque is worthy of consideration. Either way, this swap is going to be a huge improvement over stock in every respect.

                Magnaflow 2.5"

I have my Magnaflow about 18" from my crossover and out to the tips at 2.5".

This is a little 2.8 that sounds a whole lot bigger. The Magnaflow is not obnoxious in the volume department but the car has a very low and commanding sound.
