  • What Spark Plugs 4 a RSM 3400 set up

    Well as you know I rebuilt my engine with the RSM S/C set up and supportig mods.. The mechanic had installed Stock OEM plugs for my 01 Grand AM GT 3400. I think I should have different plugs but Im not sure on what plugs to by and why. Any sugestions on what would work best?

    I'd recommend the ACDelco irridium plugs. Should be able to get them at a GM dealership (I think they were stock plugs on the '04+ 3400's) for about $9/ea.

    cheaper than any other brand of irridium plug, even though they're NGK's in an ACD box

      No, with boost he's going to want a colder plug than that. I recommend NGK or denso iridium plugs that are one range colder than stock. Not sure on the NGK part number (they are TR6's I think?) but the denso's I use are IT20's.

          go into your auto parts store and tell them you want plugs for a 90 TGP.. perfect for you app.

            you don't want iridium or platnum. the center electrode is to thin. you may have problems with spark blow out. stay with coppers with about a .030 gap and no more than 2 heat ranges colder.

              Don't go to NAPA, they'll claim that the stock number has been superceeded (they haven't) and will give you the wrong plugs.

                I've been using iridium tips for years with no problem. The stock ignition on the grand am's is pretty powerful and provides plenty of power to the plugs. Gapped properly he will not have spark blow out issues even running boost. If he was running higher boost or adding nitrous, then he might want to use copper over iridium because the higher pressures and extreme increase in combustion temperature using nitrous would be hard on the thinner tips.

                  i'm just going off of what Paxton s/c's said. my dad s/c a TPI 350 with 6lbs of boost and that's what they recommended and said why. and that was with modded ingition. -shrug- maybe now it's not as critical as people once though. hell, they seem to work well for you. i'd rather use the iridium's then.

                    I still run stock heat range on mine (well, before I pulled it apart). I will still be running stock heat range when the motor is in it's new home.

                    I produced (dynoed) upto 430 wheel HP @ 16 psi and ran it as high as 19 psi (roughly 470 wheel HP) on stock heat range, autolite standard resistor plugs.

                    I tried to go colder, but they simply fouled out. I never had heat range issues.

                      actually there are some sport compact drag racers running up to and over 50 psi on denso plugs so i doubt you'll have a problem with them if you have the ignition setup to back it up
