  • The Hybrid Build w/Boosted/N20

I posted this on the v6z24.com board but I wanted to get as much exposure for assistance from as broad of a range of people as I can.

I started this project out as a 3.1L Valve Train install. Then it moved to a 3.1L Complete mild build, Then it became a 3X00 Hybrid Complete Major Build with N20 and here it sits now.

3X00 Hybrid Complete Major Build for Turbo and N20.

My Goal is 350HP (w/125 HP Shot of N20) @ the wheels and a 13.0 Sec 1/4Mile (I know I am being modest with the numbers but I dont want to brag about power I dont have yet)

Here is a list of what I have bought and what I have yet to buy. Please feel free to add any comments about parts or design that may help me through this build.

I will not be doing the build by myself. My shop that I deal with will be doing the build but I will be there every step of the way to learn from the PROS and to get my hands dirty on this build.

if you can I would try to find a 3100 block. Roller cam and better oiling. roller cam has more potential

Nice idea but I am already into the parts for this set up and I am not interested in throwing away money now. But from the research that I have obtained this design will give me the most for my money in the way of power.

You're going to need much bigger injectors than that for 350hp. Stock '99 grand am injectors are 19lb/hr and are maxed out by 200hp. Try some 36lb/hr from the grand prix GTP.

Also some people have had issues with high volume oil pumps. If the block and internals aren't properly machined with the right tolerances etc to need it, the extra flow is pointless and will just cause problems. I believe those pumps are more for circle track cars running race engines, and probably use higher capacity oil pans as well. Stick with the stock pump.

Other than that, can't comment on the rest 'cause I'm not as familiar with the 3.1 specifics as I am the later engines. Good luck with the build though.

        Gotta love boost!

Thanks for the info on the pump. I was thinking that the oil pump should be adiquit.

As for the Injectors yeah i am finding out fast from many people that #19 wont be enough.

Your power to ET estimates need some work. What car is this in? I'm going to guess early 90's J-body..if so, your car probably weighs in at 2700lbs. With 350whp(rougly ~411hp @ the crank assuming 15% drivetrain loss), a J-body should be able to crack 11's w/ traction.

Traction will be a big issue as I have seen this on other Jbodies that are boosted.

But like I have said I am being overly modest on the estimates.

I am now a little closer to the final Boost products that I am looking for.

Thanks to HAYESPERFORMANCE I picked up the 3800 Eaton Super charger from a 99SC GM Car.

                SC+TC+N20

Hope this all works the way I want it to.

                  tri-power lol sounds fun.
looks good, except that you prolly bought alot of stuff before really planning this out.
should have went with the 3400 block and 3500 topend imo.
but this, if tuned properly will crank out some nice numbers.

It started out as just a remove and replacement of a stock 3.1L then it has grown from there. As for decisions on the Block and Intake that for the most part has not changed. Sure I would like to do the 3500 Conversion and drop it in but at the cost of one in this area no way.

I did in fact check in on the costs on several engines and that is why I decided to go the route I am on (Hybrid), it will be an opportunity for me to get my hands dirty again doing a tear down and a rebuild and to learn somethings new on the way.

Time is not a factor as this is going to take me some time to complete. But it will be fun non the less. As for money, well I am not rich and I choose to only spend so much on my toy per month, as I have no interest in being one of these people that put so much money into there cars all at once and then they wind up eating nothing but Kraft Dinner every night with water. KWIM?

if in the end it is not what I want then I will tear it down and divy up the parts into a new project. In the end I will be happy no matter what.

                    Thanks for the inputs

                        04 - 05? Malibu, and 05 G6s. There's a starting point anyways.

                        14.60 @ 96.33 for now...

I got my 3500 from a 04 malibu, and i think that was the only two cars that had them... I could be wrong but car-part only comes up with malibu and g6 04-05 when you search for malibu 04 engine...

I take that back, those are the only two cars that Linders has 3500's from...

Does the Montana have the same 3500 heads as the malibu and G6?

                              Montana came with a 3400, not a 3500.
