  • Installed LS6/LS2 valve springs on '01+ 3400

Well I finaly got the chance to order and install my new valve springs on my '02 3400.

I ordered the springs form Lingenfelter for $65 + $15 for shipping.
    GM part number: 12586484

I ordered the shims from comp cams $8 + $6 shipping
    Comp cams part number: 4737-16

The valve stem seals were off a '92 cavalier with a 2.2 and I got them at AutoZone. $15 each
    FelPro part numer: SS 10816

I also rented the tool to compress the valve springs at AutoZone
    tool rental part number: 27040

Here is a pic of all the parts I got.

Here is a pic of me using the valve spring compressor on the car

Here is a pic with them installed

And in the end I feel with the given parts and sticker-(this is where the real power came from) that this gave me a net horse power gain of around 200 hp, so tha puts me at around 450 whp.

the bottom of the spring stays put with the flat shims? I've run this setup on my '01 3400 for about half a year now, used the shims/seats from isky cams. I also went with valve seals from a Chrysler 318 and have been good. I wonder if either has an advantge or not!

I have heard of people saying that they had problems with the 318 valve stem seals leaking.

Actually the oil was very clean, the flash must have make it look dark.

Hopefully not. They went onto the stem pretty snug, if anything more snug than 3.1's fit on the '00 and down heads. I'll keep an eye out though.

And what about pre-2000 heads ('99 to be exact)? Would you use the 2.2 seals or 3.1s?

yeah, it's a pain though, if you don't know the application they came from; i.e. I've got 2 sets of heads at the shop, one from a '99GA and the other set from a '00 Malibu - both heads have the same exact friggin p/n cast on 'em; but the valve guides are different diameters. I had to whip out the number punches and mark the year on 'em.

should be the same as the 00 heads, all you gotta know is the valve guide diameter

Exactly. The heads are the same. They just changed the valve guide diameter mid-year 2000. That will determine which seal you need and if you need to mod the shims or not.

Did they need any modification? Because I think I had read somewhere on another forum that pre-2000 would use the 3.1 seals.

I just wanted to make sure and hear everyone's insight. Anyone know a part# for the 3.1 seals?
