I need to know some info on this engine as I just got a 96 corsica with this engine. (goverment vehicle)

I had it for a week now and so far no probs I think the state kept the maintenance up to date but I heard stories that major parts need replacement down the road. Is this true ?

My 3100 has 101,000 miles on it (around that atleast)

miles on it, running strong so far and i hope it lasts

LIM gasket probably could use a replace. Coolant flush and refill if it has DexShit in it.

That's all I can think of.

Yup. Fel-pro makes a metal LIM gasket that is much more duralbe than the plastic ones. For that year motor, the p/n would be :MS98004T you can get them online for about 77 shipped and it include other gaskets and o-rings to do the job. Or get it at any major parts store. Online ebay has it cheap, and rockauto.com actually sells it cheap ~77 too.

You don't want the coolant leaking into the oil and taking out the bearings. That can happen with a leaky LIM gasket.

If you want performance, you can swap a 3400 in there. Since your's is a 96 the EGR mounting isn't much of an issue, and you can buy a DHP powertuner and edit your computer code to tune the car to run perfectly with any modifications you do. If it were a 94-95 there's no way to edit/tune the stock computer. So you're kinda lucky to have a 96.

Don't bet you life on the maintenance records, states are just as cheap as everyone else. We do some work on post office vehicles and you really have to twist their arms for stuff.
