It's possible and it's been done before but totally not worth the time invested.
just upgrade to a single 2.5" exhaust and swap your gen2 manifolds out for a set of 3400 manifolds (downpipe is 2.5" instead of 2"), hi-flow cat and a decent muffler... you'll really open it up then.

They fit perfect, and flow alot more than the 3.1 manifolds.

x3.
With that displacement motor and the placement dual exhaust is pointless. It's not a big longitudinally mounted V8. Also remember dual exhaust pipes add extra weight which slows you down. If you can meet your power needs with a single larger pipe thats the way to go.'97 Grand Prix GT 3800 (sold)

i put dual exaust on mine simply for the fact that i could. it actualy started out after i built the headers, and i beilt the pipes comming back just before the cat, and though, hell it cant be that much work to run dual. well i was wrong, 2 weeks later it was finnished. i ended up using a pair of 3 way mini cats and a pair of flowmaster 60 series. the thing sounds like no other v6 ive heard. it has a very lumpy idle (though thats more atributed to the cam) like a v8, but sounds like a bumble bee in high rpm ranges (a tad raspy, not much though).
does it actualy help??? i doubt it, i would likley have been able to acomplish the same thing with a single 2.5", but this sounds way cooler, and i love the reaction i get when people ask why i have a fake dual exaust and i tell em to look under the car.
