  • Ran a 302 tonight...

Was down in town tonight, just happened to get lined up next to a late 80's 302 Mustang. He had exhaust, and I've got my 3" Magnaflow rumbling. He revved real quick once, and it was on. Just went light to light...not sure what the speed ended up being, but I was just in to 2nd gear at WOT with 6000rpm shifts. He didn't stand a chance. It was fun...not legal, obviously, but I'm so pumped about this thing running right again, and actually making its 250+ HP.

Need to get it to a dyno again, and to the track.

I ran a 5.0 3 times in a row (even complimented him on his exhuast.) had nice paint too. Pulled on him easily from the line, then he'd shift and jump up but then fall right back behind. This was way back in the day too. Now I'd probably do better. Especially after I get my manifolds on.. Hopefully they will give me 10-15 hp or so, and they will look good doing it too!! You'll see!

I used to have a '84 camaro with a 3.1 longblock, wolverine cam, tubular headers, 4-barrel , etc. (the stock 2.8 snapped 2 cranks) 5-speed, and 3.73 gears. I ran with most 5-litre stangs, beat automatic cars by 2-4 car lengths. And no 305 cars could touch me. b.t.w. For whatever the reason, my car didn't sound like an evinrude outboard either. The idle was a little choppy. Since the engine was that much lighter, from less bullcrap tacked all over, it handled better than an Iroc after I upgraded the suspension.

I've eaten up a few 302's and the 4.6's are even slower it seems. At the track I was whomping on the camaro's that didn't have slicks, holeshotting the hell out of them. Sure, they were running me down pretty hard at the line, but they had to work for it.

Edit: didn't see this thread was two years old!!!

Nowadays I like toying with the yuppies in BMW's. These guys really get bent outta shape when you whoop their 3-or 5-series. (they throw their hands in the air and blow their horns) I may break bad and do something with the 3100 in the '98. Go out hunting for M3's. Should'nt take much.
