Ok, so I have some problems with my build. Lets start with the worst first.

#1, I Have a 3.4 L32, and I got a 2.8 cam from comp cams, (thats all they make). and installed it in the mostly bare shortblock. The cam seems to have a lot of front/back play... all the way forward seems to tbe the ideal position, but it slides back probably 3/8", maybe 1/2". i cant remember. from what we could see there is nothing that is missing that is supposed to hold it in position better. I went to GM yesterday and a tech told me that the timing chain sprocket is supposed to ride tight to the block holding the cam in position... well... mine isn't. if i push the cam all the way back so the sprocket rides the block it seems out of alignment with the crank sprocket, and not centered on the lifters anymore.

Are the cams different somehow between the 2.8/3.1/3.4 camaro engines? I dont have my old cam unfortunately. If there is a difference I think I might have to make a spacer to fit behind the cam sprocket.

#2, my timing chain damper is worn and chipped at the top on one side. I went to GM and they said its discontinued!! What can I do?

#3, does anyone have a picture of the cam bolts? I'm not sure which ones they are in my pile of bolts.

im not sure about the alignment issues, but i do know that you can get the timing chain guide from the aftermarket. head down to your favorite parts store and ask em, they should have it.

for your refference.... the cam is supposed to move front/aft on installation... there really isn't anyting to hold it in place.

the timing chain dampener cost me $10 aftermarket.
