  • 3400 vortec heads?

Anyone know if the heads used in the new '06 Pontiac Torrent really are vortec heads or not? I had called up the local dealership last week and they have a left and right side part number for those heads per that application, but they're currently running ~$1200 each, not the pair.

Just wondering if anyone knows different, I'm thinking I'm going to keep an eye on the local insurance claim junk yards for 'em.

100% identical to any 3400. They only call it Vortec because it is in a truck. They call the 4800,5300 and 6000 Vortec motors but all they are is an LS1 (LS2 if it has DOD) with an iron block. Otherwise the heads are identical in all respects.

kind of "false advertising" on GM's part if the heads aren't actual vortec heads like they are with the 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 motors.

No the 4.8L 5.3L and 6.0L are not Vortecs. They are LSx Motors. The 5.7L is a Vortec it was designed with the same port and combustion chamber design as the 4.3L which was the original Vortec motor. So Vortec today is simply marketing.

Hmmm . . . I coulda sworn last time I looked at a set of heads off a 5.3 and a 6.0 they had the vortec fins that the 350's do. I guess I'll have to remember to take a look at the next set that comes through the shop
