make a 6-60 Sound like a sbc?

I never liked fart cans. I was sooo annoyed by them when I first started driving. I was like why do they do that? Why would you make your car sound like that?! sounds like a weed-whacker! I did think neon was cool though.

heh, no neon as in the kind that glows and makes colored light! I hated the dodge neon cars with a passion after drivers ed. I got in one and was like "OMFG this car is small and a bitch to be in, what car is this??!" I then looked at the keys to see what the name of the car was, as I was going to make sure that my parents didn't talk me into one. I hated the car that much!!! I didn't even know what any cars were back then either. I just knew I didn't want one of those!!

its pretty much impossible without some tricky-ass headers. if you had 180 degree headers that had instantly opening and closing valves that rerouted exhaust gases to the left and right banks in the same firing order as an sbc(it would change every revolution becase 8/6 isnt an integer), and replicated the approximate bore and stroke of each cylinder in an sbc, then you could do it.

just a cam and exhaust? no. you can make it sound mean as hell, but with a big enough exhaust to be loud enough it won't sound anything like a sbc above idle.

I know, i thought my 6 sounded pretty mean, ignorant people thought it was a v8 at idle(but they also thought it was a corvette, not a base firebird). i was happy, it sounds like crap over 3k, but it has a mean idle for a 2.8l 6.

then i got a camaro with a 355 in it, and there is no comparison. idle is actually quieter, because the exhaust is quieter, but as soon as you open the throttle its loud as heck and sounding beautiful. you just cant duplicate the sound of 350+ cubes firing cross-plane through 4" bores. without of course 350 cubes firing crossplane through 4" bores. or flat plane with 180* headers(dont know why you would bother to put 180* headers on a flat plane, people usually do it to their cross-plane to get a flat plane sound).

of course though, im all for you making your 6 sound as much like a sbc as possible(i did the same thing), just dont brag about it or get your hopes too high, because as close as it gets, it will always lack the cross-plane burble.

well i got about a week of bodywork to do to the car b4 i take my entire video of building it and put it on my puter, so i can let u guys deside.. but a month ago when i was at the 100foot drags i was running open headers and i had the hood on for a wile and atleast 10 other racers(with v8s) came up to me to ask if there was a smallblock in it, so proudly i un-pinned the hood to show them 6 small cyls juss to see a confused look.. but i do have to agree at top end that my engine does sound more raspy than a sbc.

its easy to make one sound like a V8.. its called change the firing order. gm V6 fire in a straight like where the V8 is back and forth... the hard part is trying to run it well like that. you wouild have to change the cam and crank .

a built Olds motor is distinct in her exhaust note and sounds, thank god, nothing like a chevy. A deep 600 rpm idle that you feel more than hear. give her WOT and it sounds like the gates of hell have opened in front of you.

My SB Olds through open cans rattled dishes off the shelves, 4 houses down.

Normaly it idols at around 500-600 rpm, but it was up at about 950 kuss i was screwing with the jets trying to get ridd of a poping/babling issue at top end, there will be more, videos to come

I found just having it idle at 500 is all it takes to sound like an 8. But on throttle, no way. V6's tend to have a distinct sound on throttle, and there is almost nothing you can do to change it, just appreciate it more

Even tho at low rpm and under 2-3 grand it sounds like a V8 I deafanty love the sound once it gets into peak performance.. its like that super loud 3.1L sound mixed with about 6000Rpm.. it has its own sound and im proud to play it outa the pipes wile passing cars WITH smallblock chevy tractor engines in them..

Its a chevette/acadian its technicaly an acadian, kuss its a pontiac, but there is not a whole lot left from the factory, its pretty much been compleatly built from the ground up..... A blast to drive, its got super stiff suspension, mini Spool rearend ,big tires all a round and weighs olny 2000 lbs so it does anything you make the steeringwheel do, accelerates not bad, but still alot of bugs to work out with the carb and manafold, its kinna hard asking oppinions on somthing that has olny been done once
