Got bored tonight and did a little modding to my lumina throttle body tonight. Still needs some final touches but it definatly should flow better.

1977 Dodge Power Wagon, Short bed, Fuel injected 360, 4spd, Dana 60's, Little Red Express bed.
Here is a comparison next to a stock TB, Notice the thickness of the front edge, and the coolant heat riser removed from the bottom.

I thought about cutting the coolant thing off mine, since my stock 3100 TB didn't have one. Should save a little weight, and weight adds up right?

Not sure a couple ounces will make much difference, But I had a sawsall sitting there while grinding so I thought what the heck its not being used.

I wonder if on a dyno this mod and the knife edge would even show a difference?

I doubt it will show any gains on a dyno.

You mean can't hurt? Yeah I'll be cutting off the coolant thing since I don't have a hookup for it, it's ugly, and bulky.

If you can find a machine shop locally that has the equipment, you can have the stock TB borded to 60mm (largest you can bore the stock unit) and have a brass plate cut for it fairly cheap; that'll really help too, and a machine shop should be able to do that turn around in a day or two if they're not too busy.
I had that same work done to my stock TB for ~$80. Not bad at all

Nice! That's a TB I could afford! Did that include the plate? Why brass BTW?

Brass . . . I guess it's easier for them to cut, I'm not entirelly sure
But yeah, that price included the plate, and cutting the throttle stem for it to fit and boring the unit out. They used some kind of machine / computer program to do it, along with determining the largest bore possible. They told me anything larger than 60mm on a stock TB and the cast will be to thin and could possibly crack or start to warp around the bore. Even still, 60mm is a decent improvement over the stock 56mm.
Hopefully any machine shops near you that can do this will quote you a price similar

I do have a machine shop (large one) in my city. I guess I can give them a call. I doubt it would be cheap but you never know!
On a side note I cut off the coolant passages on my 3400 TB last night. Looks way better. I also got done gasket matching, and bellmouthing 3 of my 3500 ports. Takes about 1 hr per port since my air compressor sucks. When it's re-filling with air I pick up a dremel. Today I'm going to do the other 3, then do the lower plenum (will be easier since it's not far off from the gasket)
