  • Lightweight Pushrod and 3500 valve Q

As I've said before while the heads are off the 3400 I'm looking to do as many mods as I can to get extra hp and maybe a few hundred more rpm's out of the motor. I know sappy said upgrading to the lighter 3500 valves wouldn't be the best use of money unless I had ported heads, and that he said to go with the dhp. But I want to get as many mods on before I get the ecu reprogrammed so they can do it accurately to my engine specs. So basicly the question is do you guys think I should order the lightweight pushrods from millzy and the 3500 valves, and if it would be worth some extra revs and hopefully a little more horses?

ps- I am already swapping to the ls1 springs.

the reason to use them with ported heads is because your not going to make power or even reach higher rpms with stock heads. its a case of small things adding up. sure you can use them to free up .19hp or to rev faster, i cant see the harm. just dont expect the butt dyno to detect an increase in power. my guess is since there is no parameter regarding valvetrain component weight it wont likely have anything to do with your ecm program.

Personally I'd invest in something else. Unless you are going all out on your heads...

Definetly valves over pushrods, but neither need to be done. You need to get stronger pushrods if anything so unless the lightweight pushrods are actually stronger, I wouldn't use them.

When it comes to weight inthe valvetrain, the valve and everything on that side of the rocker are where you want to focus.

so do you think it would be worth anything to invest in the 3500's or where else would my motor appreciate that $150

Valves are a better bang for the buck than titanium retainers, so if you want to go lighter then yes, the 3500 valves would be the way to go. However, that 150 would be better off saved for head porting or the ECU. As I said, I wouldn't spend 150 on the 3500 valves to put on stock heads. Id get new springs and retainers/keepers first since stock springs get weaker with age, and the retainers/keepers are much better quality from comp than the stockers. They won't do anything performance wise but durability will be increased. Springs might let you rev higher and with the right cam even stock heads will produce pretty nice results for top end power.
