    It is a 2.109" welch plug vs. a camshaft seal... Pretty much the same thing, but there is indentation on the camshaft seal. Would it be a mistake to use the plain ole plug in it's place? Curious due to any possible fluid buildup, etc, etc, etc...

    I've used a welch plug on a SBC, that also had the same cam shaft seal as you have shown. Thus far I have not heard of any problems, I did have to make sure that it was not installed too far though, other wise it would put pressure on the back of the cam and not allow it to sit right.

      It looks like there is plenty of clearance. Just didn't know if the bulge was there for a reason or not... The back side of the cam is totally flat with a hole in the center, and two key holes on each side (figure this is for mounting to a lathe, etc..)
