  • Distributor for 3.4l

Have one of the Gm performance 3.4l upgrade engines in my S-15. I'm needing to upgrade my ignition system completely. I'm having trouble finding a performance distributor. I'm plan on MSD for everything else. The truck is used to go to Lowes and Down the drag strip Only. I'm also planning ethier nitrous or a blower. Does anyone have a suggestion.

Yea keep the stock one. There is nothing to gain from a performance one. All the stock one is, is a magnetic trigger and a pointer. It has nothign to do with ignition timing or the intensity of the spark. If it is worn badly buy a rebuild.

I will tell you that Mallory makes a replacement distributor but it is optical triggered which is kinda scary. Even condensation could cause running issues

Go for the upgrades like a capacitive discharge box, a good coil and some nice wires. MSD is pretty good but I urge you too look at more options. Crane makes an acceptional box and coil with more features and a better design. Magnecor makes pretty much the best wires money can buy.

I agree, keep the stock dizzy.

I haven't seen the mallory unit, but I have seen a Proform "aftermarket" unit that is based on the early carbed FWD 660s, in the A-bodies (and possibly a couple other body styles), that uses a coil in cap design, much like the SBC of similar era. Be forwarned teh cap is huge and I don't believe it will clear the stock S-10 intake, and especially if you use a blower like th Fagoel.

No it wont clear that is why the trucks and Camaro all used a remote mount. This type of coil allows for more options anyway.
