I think I'll jump in this thead... hehe. What about the 3100 (2003 Grand Prix SE)? I wanted to get the ready-made cold-air intake from Milzy Motorsports, but they don't tell you what is included in the kit (does the tube account for the IAT? The vacuum line that connects to it? What about the electronic piece between the the tubing and the airbox? I think that's the MAF but I'm not sure). Also, the muffler is the unit at the tail pipe, and not the one under the cabin, right? Just checking since my old car had a resonator at the tail pipe and a muffler behind the rear axle, plus another resonator under the cabin. Weird, I know. I wanna replace the muffler since I'm 95% that there is a loose baffle inside it that is making a vibration noise... makes the car sound like a POS haha.2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE - 3100 SFI V6

Id go with the PCM, and save the rest of the money for something else. If he wanted gains out off a homemade intake, its almost have to be a CAI to get more than the stock set up, becasue WAI although yes will be louder, youll loose a certian amount of tq.
on most 3100/3400 cars, the cat is only a foot or two tops from the down pipe in the center of the car.sigpic

Sawzall off the exhaust. Take off all the vaccum lines that you don't need around the carb. Remove the smog pump. Use a set of bolt cutters to cut off and pinch shut the egr lines from the exhaust manifolds.
If the car is anything like a 1987 oldsmobile station wagon... thats what I did and it worked pretty well.
Seriously though, if your buddy only has $200 dollars to spare, it would be wise to save the money incase anything breaks.1988 Fiero GT 5spd
