  • Turbo 3400 Swap!!!!

I am planing on starting my swap soon. It will be installed in an 87 Fiero GT. I have a turbo, and water to air intercooler off a Typhoon on there way, and plan on getting the engine in the next week or two. As parts start coming in I will post up some pics.

According to Shaun on RFT the turbo will bolt right onto the factory 3400 down pipe. I plan to mount the turbo where the stock muffler was located.

    I have a few questions:
Will the stock fuel pressure regulator work and if not where have you guys been getting one that will work from?

I am looking at getting a SPEC stage 3 clutch, is this the right one for my application? Will the throwout bearing the kit comes with work or will I need to get a different one?

As I come accross more questions I will let you guy know

    Thanks for your help

what tranny are you going to be using??? the 90-92 getrag has a different sized release bearing.

if you are using the fiero tranny, get a neutral balanced flywheel (88+) or knock the weight off of your stock flywheel. then just use any clutch for a fiero.

The 3400 stock FPR won't read boost correctly so you'll need to replace that. Caspers makes an adjustable FPR with a 1:1 rising rate that will read boost. You can get it at partsforyourcar.com and a few other places.

Do you have a link to your build?

What size are the stock 3400 injectors? This will be my weak link untill I upgrade.

I will be running my Mega Squirt and a wide ban so I hope to have it running strong.

Are you part of the v6z24 forum? I tried to join and they wont approve me.

either of you guys have any links to the RRFPRs. I tried PFYC and had no luck finding them there. I was just going to use an adjustable FPR like this one

This is the one I found form the link Aaron gave me. I dont know if it has the 1:1 rise rate though.

And this is the one I found: Cost $250
cartech, cartech racing, viper twin turbo, turbo viper, mustang turbo, twin turbo, turbo mustang, nsx turbo, innovative turbo, precision turbo, turbonetics, spearco, intercooler, aftercooler, mod motor turbo, cobra turbo, diy turbo, wastegate, tial, fast, fuel injection specialties, super street outlaw, nmra, turbo technologies, ptk, pro turbo kits, pro turbo, hennesey motorsports, incon, tdc, u-bends, flanges, headers, castings, manifolds, bmw turbo, m3 turbo, fmu, turbo vette, ls1 turbo, billet fmu, rising rate regulator

I would like to know if the one from pfyc will work because it is almost $100 cheeper.

That's the same one that pfyc carries. They just give you the option to get the regulator only without the gauge and stuff which is why it's $40 cheaper, or you can get it with the kit for the same price. That regulator will work with boost. It's a straight 1:1 ratio though (which I prefer), not a rising rate like a vortech FMU at 5:1 or anything.

TurboGT, injectors from a 2000+ 3400 are from delphi and rated at 22.5lb/hr at 55psi. '99 and earlier 3400's had 19lb/hr bosch injectors.
