  • putting in 3500 valves into my 3400 heads

    Hey Guys
I need to know what all I need to put 3500 vavles into my 3400 heads because I was thinking using ls1 shims and ls2 valve springs and I dont know what kind of valve stem seals I should use

  • #2
Why? They aren't going to help you any. Leave the valves alone.

Either way, the valve stems are the same, 8mm. You'll need either the 3.1L or chrysler 318 valve seals depending on the year of your 3400 heads and the diameter of the valve guides.

They are a different shape and weigh less so they have the potential. Id take them over SI valves or 3400 valves personally.

You will want to either grind down the GM shims for the LSx spring seats, or use the isky 950-VSL seats. Comp might have something as well that will work. The 318 seals will work for those heads.

u can use older 2.2 valve seals on 00+ heads and not have to grind anything down

The valve seals have nothing to do with the grinding.

You will need to use LS1 shims and because of the year of your heads you'll need to grind them down a bit its not that big of a deal. As for seals the Chrysler 318 seals fit perfectly.

Right, the seals have nothing to do with grinding. More specifically, if you are going to use the LS1 shims, you have to grind the hole in them slightly so they'll fit over the larger diameter valve guides on later year heads.

As for the valves, thats news to me. I read on here someone thought they were larger diameter, then someone else said they were the same diameter as the 3400 valves. I've never heard anyone say they were lighter or different shaped. Even so, without any specific data, gains from them are only speculation at this point. Lighter valves would give you more valve train stability at high rpm for sure but wouldn't make any measurable power. As for the shape we don't know if that makes any difference unless some flow benches them. Any volunteers?

the 318 seals are rumored to not seal completely.. the 2.2 seals that Midnight mentioned fit perfect. We'll know more after Jason (Moonwell) fires up his cammed 3400. I am also using the 2.2 seals but chances are my engine won't be running for another month or so...

318 seals are tight so its probably an install issue. They are hard to get on the valve stem so I would imagine that is the real issue with them.
