The 2.2 ecotec motor is not a crappy little 2.2 like the ones before. It is way more powerful than the 2.4, and it is VERY underrated. I would say he may take you at the top. Your car is gonna have more torque off the line due to the fact that it is a v6 and his is DOHC, but once those little things wind up, they go!

ohhh, also, i raced my buddy with his 02 ecotec cav before he did any mods to it, but his was stick, and he KILLED my lumina, so an automatic one will probably still beat you, but just not as bad as my buddy beat me

i already checked, his car is not dohc, its a single cam, & i dont see how it is more powerful than 2.4's rated 35 hp more than them with more torque & virtually the same weight?

the eco-tec is dohc. if it doesn't say eco-tec it is just a pushrod ohv 2.2 that they've been updating since '90 i think. originaly expanded from the old 2.0. thats the 115-120 hp motor. the eco tec was rated 140 when it was introduced. snap a pic of his engine so we can see for ourselves if you can.

haha ok guys, i will. but when i looked at it im pretty sure i didnt see it setup with 2 cams... also, why does it say on intellichoice.com that-that paricular motor is rated at 115 hp?

according to that site its the ohv 2.2 not an ecotec, the ecotec came out the following year when the z24's were replaced with the LS. so you should be in the green on this one.

hahaha i have no idea, right now his car needs a fender/hood/bumper/headlight/airbags put on it because he just got into a wreck, i took all the broken stuff off & he has the new parts, he just has to get off his lazy ass and put the parts on it or let me do it, i still need to get my exhaust/intake setup done, so it should be sometime before the end of the month lol. right now its just an arguement as to whos car is faster.

If he has an ecotec he'll prob. beat you. If it says ecotec on the valve cover it is one.

I was watching the speed channel 5 mins ago and they had a eco cobalt base model (close to the cav) on there in take and exhaust it was maken 140 at the wheels they picked up 16+ h/p from a intake and catback

theres a suptle difference between a new cobalt & a car 5 years older, but that is impressive. does anybody have any guesses as to what kind of hp i would gain if i swapped 3400 heads/intake/exhaust manifolds, then ran a pretty short exhaust that came out the side (im considering cherry bombing it but im not sure yet), & an ram air intake setup like i mentioned earlier?

just the top end swap i'd guess 20 h/p or so

thats teh thing though, those motors arent rated 140, they're rated (at least his-is) at 115 hp. also i drove his other one, a 98 (which is rated at 5 more hp), & it was a dog when compared to my lumina (which my lumina is a dog when compared to my old lumina eurosport, which is a 4 dr z34 & was very fast lol). im pretty confident that im going to give him a good ass whipping.

The 98 would NOT be rated at 5hp more. The 97 would. You're saying that he has a 2.2. That means ECOTEC, and 140hp. The 2200 would have 115hp. Given 5spd though, even the 2200 in 00+ can be fairly quick.

Since you've posted that he has the ECOTEC, I'd say you're probably going to lose. If he's got a 4spd auto, you're probably still going to lose. Cuz honestly, it sounds like you do a lot more bragging about your car than actually taking care of it.
