Ok here's a tough one. I am trying to find out if the level of imbalance between a pre 1988 2.8 is the same for a late model L36 3800 both in a rwd camaro application. Meaning, would these two externally balanced flywheels work interchangably provided clutch issues are ignore as well as mounting pattern.
The reason I ask is because I need a .5" thicker flywheel for my 3800 motor swap into my isuzu pickup and I heard the pre 88 camaro 2.8 flywheel is 1.5" thick, and is also externaly balanced. If it has teh same amount of imbalance factored in than I could redrill the mounting pattern and use a 2.8 pressure plate for my swap. I would also need to preserve the orientation of the 2.8 flywheel to match up where the weights are oriented. If anyone knows this obscure info let me know.
thanks
chris
