does anyone make a hyper utectic piston for the 3.1 or has anyone treid using a 2.8 piston in 3.1 i know the wrist pin is ina different location but i don't know the specs for the 3.1

i am not sure about the wrist pin height, i know it is different, what numbers i dunno

federal mogul p/n h562 is the 3.1L hypereutectic replacement

If you put a 2.8L piston in a 3.1L you'd have the piston sticking out of the block by about 0.16 inch.

2.8L compresssion distance is 1.578 to 1.598 inch depending on application for the 2.8L

      3.1L compression distance is 1.442

Tree you got the wrong part number for a replacement 3.1L Alum head piston.

      3.1L alum head gen2 engine is H561P
      3.1L Iron Head gen1 engine is H562P

Big difference in compression ratio due to smaller dish on the 562.

i was looking for iron head pistons, but it's nice to know they make them for the alumium motos too. my ? is with a 3.4 head gasket could you use the 2.8 pistons in a iron head motor i thought the 3.4 head gasket was thinker than a 3.1. 0.016 wouldn't bother me if everything worked out right. plus i would have very good compression

the ironhead motors use a .041" head gasket, the gen 2 (2.8 and 3.1l) and gen 3 motors all use .062" headgaskets (i may be off a couple thousants).

so there may be hope for 2.8 pistons on a3.1 crank. when i take my 3.1 apart i will have to see what can be done here. the thinker head gasket should give me plunty on cleance in the chamber but i wonder how it will affect the quench of the thing.

I don't think they realize that he said .16 and not .016 -

i didn't even relize they said 0.16 when i read it it looked like .016 damn ishouldn't read these things tired, well i don't think that would work. i mite look into the few hyperuteic pistons made for 3.1 but i don't think any of them are flat tops though.
