  • cheap 3.4 power increase

Looking for a relatively cheap way to increase power in my 01 aztek. The 3.4 in my opinion is not quite powerful enough for a brick on wheels. I would expect that the 3.4 in some of the grands had more power. Engine is basically the same and I would think the computer is too. Is it possible to just pull a chip from a grand am with a 3.4 and stick it in the aztek? Just lookin for a little extra not lookin to swap cams or bore or turbo anything.

No, there is no "chip" to be swapped, and a PCM swap requires the use of a TechII, meaning dealer swap only, and I really don't think anything would be gained from that.

You're best bet here is mechanical upgrades, intake and exhaust.

That isn't entirely true. While HP Tuners doesn't make software specifically for the Pontiac Aztek, they do make software for lots of cars with 3400s. If you wanted to get into tuning, I would drop them a line and ask them if they could get something to work for you. The TECH II allows you to read and clear codes, but I do not think it allows you to modify A/F tables or factory parameters.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

        UHG....

There is no "CHIP" to swap, meaning no removable PROM, like older ECMS.

The TECHII does not allow you to modify the programming, but is needed to swap PCMS.
When swapping PCMS, you have to teach the PCM that it is in the proper vehicle (VIN recognition, other variables), and thus the TECHII is needed for that.

I thought that was pretty clear....

Oddly, the trucks are rated higher HP wise than the cars, so swapping to a Grand Am program wouldn't get you anything... Custom programming would be the only way to do it.
