If you put an M90 on that engine it will be less gain than a turbo... but not half. Probably closer to 70%. If he has hook-ups with freinds like he says to help with the fabrication he could do it pretty cheap. You can get an M90 from a junkyard or on Ebay for dirt cheap. Most of the other stuff he'd need like injectors and the tuner, he would have to buy if he got the turbo too so I don't see much difference there. Either way boost is the way to go.

yea, the main reason i prefer looking into supercharging is because of one thing, no extra/complicated exhaust tubing to run/custom headers to find! haha that & spooling up, that & the method of tuning, with the supercharger it would be changing the size of a pulley, with the turbo ? otherwise i would definitely go with the turbo, they usually add more power than a supercharger, & seem to be more popular.

with the turbo is a twist of a knob or push of a button to bump up the boost, alot easier
the exhaust isnt hard to figure out, i would use the stock cast manifolds for straingth and just port them out, then make a custom cross over tube with a flange for the turbo, not hard at all
spooling up is nothing anymore with a properly sized turbo, and guys running larger turbos have found it keeps the tires from shedding to peices rgith away

The last time I checked the stage 1 turbo from DPP was $1600 (I think Germ is changing some prices around). You would need a few other items (heat sheilding, I would go with a MAF with a IAT built in, and a 2 bar MAP), but for the most part it's going to net you more hp then P&P everything, changing the bore... and it'll cost about the same (unless you just happen to know how to polish and the theories behind doing so).
Be warned the turbo kits from germ take a while (2-3 months). I'm sure you could poke and prod him a bit to make him move faster...

Actually, most GM cars come with both a MAF and MAP stock. When it comes to boost, if might be a good idea to just go with 1, but I don't think it'll hurt to have both.-Brad-

No, you were right. They all have MAF, MAP, IAT, etc. Having both makes the idling and fueling more accurate. Some older imports and domestics only had a MAP and not a MAF and worked on a speed/density setup (pretty sure the '95 was like that).'97 Grand Prix GT 3800 (sold)

anyone know where i can find just the turbo headers/manifolds for my 3100? if i could find then then i would just pick up an appropriately sized turbo off of ebay. adapt it to the headers/manifolds, then run the exhaust from the turbo & do whatever i would need electrically. also can someone please make a list of what i would need & how much each part would be-besides the exhaust components & actual turbo are concerned? i figure i will need all kinds of boost gauges, knock gauges, new ecm system, etc... which sounds like a pain & just as much money if not more than what i would be looking at to setup a supercharger system (oh and the whole fabrication concerning the intake for the supercharger doesnt concern me so if thats what you think would be the hardest part of the supercharging system trust me i dont mind). also ive never customized manifolds before (if it wouldnt be too hard i could do it myself with the tools we have in the shop, but we lack an exhaust tubing bender), i would figure how things have to flow and exactly how long the exhaust coming off of each side of the motor is would play a major part in whether or not the turbo worked, & getting those measurements/flow -exact- sounds pretty hard to me. also how would i go about porting out the manifolds?
