  • Who makes forged pistons for the 3400?

My rebuild shop says he can't find any? wtf?

What companies make custom sized forged pistons for a 3400.

None. There is basically no aftermarket support for the 3400.

You will have to get custom machined pistons made to spec.

I have a quote request into Ross right now. Work through a shop that has a relationship with a company (like Ross, JE, etc.) so you can get a halfway decent break on the cost... ( If they pass it on to you that is )

Uh, that's what he was asking!??! Like Todd said, any piston manufacturer who does custom pistons will do custom pistons for this engine. There are many people out there who have had custom forged pistons made for these engines, so it is entirely possible. It almost sounds like your machinist is looking for an off-the-shelf forged piston, in which case there won't be any. Custom is the only way to go.

blackbombshell's question implies that he is looking for a company that has some made, sitting on a shelf ready for sale.

Wiseco made mine also, any CR. Specify rod pin diameter, or better yet send a pin. Piston, rings and pin were $130 each. They will make them to custom rod lengths also.

Mine will be .020 over as well, with a lower compression height, thicker rings, and able to accomodate .927 diameter pins with spirolox retainers. If that's not custom, I don't know what is

Ross made mine, stock bore, 8.0:1 compression, boosted rings spacing, SBC wrist pin, 500 US for a set of 6 with pins with spiral locks.

Again WiseCo. Mine were +.020, .927. 13:1, and with a bridge for 6.0 inch Carillo rods. I have thin rings. I don't know why you want thicker rings.

Ouch. Even with a good set of rings $789 is a lot. Mine from Venolia came to $500 for dished, offset pin pistons, tapered pins, and spiralocks.

when i go to build my engine (im gonna use a 3400 block) i wanna go with an 8:1 c/r, the first ring about 0.250" under the crown (to give the ring land strength to hold up to extreme turbo abuse), gapless rings, taper walled pins and spiral locks

a few questions..... is it possible to do that with the ring on our engines? and about how much would you expect that to cost? what price range am i looking at? and also, whats a safe overbore when dealing with high boost levels?
