  • So what would you do if you were me?

2 days ago I called this engineered performance company just to ear a price on what I might want done to my 92 grand prix se and this is what he told me...

    3400 sfi swap: $2.500

    3.1 w/T3 turbo/intercooler/wiring etc: $2.500

...What sorta bothers me is his numbers, he was telling me with this turbo kit he offers I'll be seeing 300hp around 5100rpm and with the 3400 swap I'll be pushing 180hp, I'm iffie about his numbers. from his explaination the turbo swap seemed a little more worth the money even though a 3400 has more potential. So what are your opinions on this matter? (reliability main factor also)

dave on clubgp had a hell of a time with them. He had them do a TGP upgrade to his car, or he fixed up a tgp...i don't remember the details. I just know that the turbo was messed up and they charged an arm and a leg to do anything. It doesn't cost 2500 to swap a 3400 in there. Its a pretty simple swap though if you don't have a garage to work in I can understand not doing it yourself. It drops right in and you only have a few things to worry about like the throttle cable and extending a couple wires for the DIS.

2500 to do a turbo upgrade however would be more worth 2500...but id still be leary of having them do it considering what I have read.

...ok ,hearing that seriously confirms he was full of $%^*& because he proclaimed the swap would require to take out my tranny since my 92 4T60 eletronically isn't very compatiable with the 3400 sfi. Not including that he made it appear like my tranny couldn't handle the power output the 3400 sfi puts out which isn't a godzilla of a amount of hp honestly.

..and I swear he changed the price since the last time I spoke with him I only contacted him twice and I swear he told me $1200 for a 3400 sfi swap
because he told me a 3.4 dohc swap was about $2500 and a 3800 swap would be the same or more. ...I don't have a garage or won a big red tool box from monster garage but I'll say the douchbag was pulling my leg....... but him being a small selective few even paying attention to this swap is what's really hurting me.

here's the website to it: (Atlanta)

        1) I know someone that is running the 4t60 with their TURBO'd 3400 sfi in an older Monte.
        2) I also know that the 4t60 will handle more torque/hp than my factory 4t45 which is connected to my factory 3400sfi (2003 N-body, 3400/4t45)

so, yeah....I'd say there is some BS'ing going on here somewhere.

I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. That sounds kind of bs. I got my 2.8 removed and my 3400 installed in my fiero (mind you, no wiring was done and some other stuff needs to be done, but I want to DIY that) and my fuel pump changed (which is a bitch in a fiero) for less than $500. If my bill hadn't had some odd hours of diagnostic work in it (unrelated to the swap) it would have been less than $400.

EP couldn't even remove a bearing off the limited slip we installed on my buddies car. They nicked the shit out of the housing and the journal.

Would a stock 3.1 even hold up under 300 HP anyway?

Yes, a stock 3.1 will handle 300 hp (if you are talking mechanically).

Are you talking 4T60 or 4T60-E on that monte. The 4T60 will bolt up to a 3400 but im not sure how the shift points will work out on it. It will work though, thats for sure. Wouldn't hurt to build up a trans if you want to build up a motor but a stock 3400 shouldn't kill a 4T60 anyway.

That was my old housing Geoff. One of the retards I worked with did that to my Diff case. That was the core return I gave to them. LOL.

Was not EP that did that.

                    hahaa.

2500 for the 3400 is a bit much.

Because I think I was the only one to buy a Limited Slip from them between teh time that Lloyd did and when I was fucking around removing my bearings... Bob was all "I know a way to do it faster" and proceeded to fuck the bearing journal surface of the Diff up while removing the bearing...

That was the diff I gave them back when I sent it in for a core charge.

I remember you showing me a pic when he got it and you being all "look at what they did" And I kinda laughed to myself as I knew then who's it was and who really fucked it over.

Whatever.. It doesn't affect the bearing or the integrity of the diff itself anyways. Shit like that happens all the time when your on flat rate and your doing things the fast way without the right tools.

I don't think I've ever used a bearing puller to remove a differential side bearing. Always use heat and an air hammer with chissel bit to pop it off.

You Bastards! You cant heat cast iron like that. You make it brittle. Unless you did preheating and postheating. But I doubt that

Well I hope you didn't get it too hot. If it breaks sometime we know who to blame :P

Step one, Cut the race, remove the race and bearings.

Step two, use the torch to heat the race red hot.

Step three, Use air hammer with chissel bit to hammer/slide bearing race off..

Thats how everyone I've ever worked with in a shop does it. At both dealerships I've worked at.

                            Meh. it'll be fine.
