What do you guys think about using the stock valve springs on a 3400 with a cam that has .490 valve lift? I desperately need to get my 3400 put togeather for the swap, because i blew a head gasket on the 3100. Coming up with the money this fast is a little difficult. The engine will only be revving to about 5700.
I was going to buy springs, but now i just need a running engine, but i dont wanna use those springs if they are destined to cause problems

If it does not bind then go for it but I would keep the revs low.

does anyone think i will have problems with valve float at around 6000 rpm with that cam? I am worried about valve float and bind, but i dont think bind is the main problem
so what im trying to get to is, is it really benificial to me to upgrade springs, or wont i have any problems with using stock?

You will have float for sure. I would not doubt it at all. People have shown flot with stock cams.

            ditto.

I have LS6 springs on my 3100 heads and they work beautifully. I've never seen even a hint of valve float.

edit: also my dad has LS6 springs on his GTP and spins the engine to 6600rpms with .536" lift and has never seen any valve float at all.

For what they cost it is good insurance...

Since I kind of pieced my info together, I feel the LS6 spring AND retainers WILL fit with the 2nd Gen 60v6 with no mods done to anything.

If this is not correct, please Let ME Know ASAP...

to save money you usually keep the v6 retainers and get ls1 shims, idk about on gen 2 heads tho just see how they seat with gen 2 shims.

also if i were you and going with that much lift i'd just get the ls2
