  • 3900 inatke

has anyone tired putting a 3900 intake on third gen 3x00 motor. the bolt pattern is the same as a 3500.

Does anyone here have a 3900 intake at all? Aren't they just now coming out?

What good would it do though without the hardware to control when the runners switch over plus tuning for the crossover. Gonna be more complicated than just bolting it on there.

I'm sure something could be made, maybe even switch it to a vacuum set-up, like the Taurus SHO engines were.

The bolt pattern is the same as which 3500? I think I looked into the bolt pattern before and it is not the same as the 3100/3400/non-VVT 3500. Now yes, it is the same as the VVT-3500, but that won't do most of us any good.

I can find out soon enough, I'll pull the 3900 plenum off my engine sometime to take a pic of what it looks like.

The 3900 may have been available to some people within General Motors for a year, but it has been available to the public through the GM dealer network since about late July or early August of this past year.

and what would you do with a 3900 intake if it did bolt up and match the intake ports in the head

i have looked over a 3900 top to bottom and the intake will not fit the 3x00 motors without major mods. to start the manifold is only held on with 4 bolts but the lower manifold has larger ports and is overall longer than a 3x00 engine. oh well can't say we didn't try

You might want to go back to school and take some math...

I count 6 bolts for the Plenum on my car:

You would need the lower and upper together. I'm going to try and get the plenum off in the next few weeks just to take a look and some pics for those who want to know this stuff.

Colin removed the plastic cover to snap those pics, I can see 4 attachment points for the plastic cover though.

I was under the impression that the vanes were variable, meaning that it use PWM outputs from the PCM an stepper motors like the IAC, to control opening and closing.
