Hey just a slightly off topic thought , if the aluminum heads have splayed valves why not use a cheaper sbc roller rocker with the conversion studs? The Iron heads are limited by valve spacing but with splayed valves .......???

i'll try and find a pic. it just depends on how wide the rockers are really. i plan on using something different other than the cranes. but another full roller rocker arm.Colin

i had to take a quick pic, didnt have one saved on the 'puter
measure with the caliper about.... oh .250-.280 inch clearance between them.
EDIT: just FYI so that it makes things easier to imagine or think about.
measuring the stock rollers they are 1.335 inch wide.
so if you knew what width the new rockers were you were measuring out, this will give you an indication.. that the widest rocker to fit in there would be about.... ah. 1.410 -1.425 inch wide leaving a hair of space between them, you might be able to get away with a bit wider by a thou or so but its getting tight.Colin

I believe any narrow body rocker will work. A wide body will not work. When I got my box of roller rockers I got 2 wide body ones in the box. Just for fun I tried to put them on. No way in hell. Much too wide1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

25759-12 is 1.6:1 ratio
you want the 1.6:1 ratio rockers.Colin

I suspect any billet aluminum rocker will have the same problem. It puts the top edge too close to the manifold. I rounded the top edge and got over 1/16" extra clearance. Plenty of room now. If I'd done that from the start I wouldn't have had to take so much metal off the manifold, but crane warns against doing that so I tried not too. However, with how small an amount I removed, where I took it off of, and with the spring pressures I'll be running, I don't think I need to worry about weakening the rocker.
Honestly though, I just hope I have them all adjusted properly now so that the hydraulic lifters work properly. You don't have to worry about that with the stock rockers. They sit in a pedastal that sets the height and pre-load automatically, and you don't have to turn the engine to install them. I think these rockers have been more trouble than they're worth. I'd just get the cam and stiffer valve springs and call it quits. The stock 3400 roller rockers aren't that bad. The only difference is these are a little lighter and the roller tip, that's all.'97 Grand Prix GT 3800 (sold)

Well I miced two set I have one is I belive crane Blazer 5.0 Ford , the other SBC Summit(aka trick flow).
Blazer 1.56" / 39.6 mm at widest point(widest point is from pivot shaft end to end)
Summit 1.60"/ 40.7 mm
Now thoose may be too wide however, the centerbolt v8 sbc engines use the narrow body arms. These arms are available at $140-150 new. Add the price of the conversion studs.
I think It would be wise to attempt to use the centerbolt v8 units if you cannot afford the crane gold rockers. Of course you would want to try and have a seller give you measurements , but the centerbolt sbc v8 units of any make would be the ones to Inquire about. In fact I have suggested this to more than one Iron head enthusiast seeking possible use of a sbc full roller rocker while maintaining a budget. Anyone who has know my work knows it involves budget requirements.1992 Chevrolet S10

yeah thats exactly what i was going to use, the Centre bolt SBC style as they are narrow. -which is the other application that the v6 rockers are actually for...
i just have to phone Comp and get one of their tech guys to give me a measurement on thier Pro Magnums to make sure. just havnt gotten around to it yet.
im going with the Comps not because they're cheaper.

Pro Magnum Rockers? are made of 8650 chromemoly steel. This material is some three times stronger than 7075-T6 aluminum which is used for most aluminum rocker arms. Our engineers used advanced computer technology (including Finite Element Analysis) to refine the Pro Magnum Rocker?.
We added strength where it was needed and reduced mass in low stress areas. The result: Pro Magnum Rocker Arms? have less weight (5%) at the valve than most aluminum rockers. This means more RPM and valve train stability.
thats IF i can fit one of those rockers with that stud size in. either that or i'll just tap them for the M10 stud's and go with the conversion rocker studs from crane.
havnt made up my mind yet as whats going to happen as i still need to take measurements for everything.
thanks for measuring those rockers!Colin

Got the car running. Valve train was quieter than before but still a little noisy. It got quieter after running for a couple minutes (I assume it just needed to get oil into everything) but it still seems a little louder than before. I'm thinking that may be normal noise since these rockers move around more than the stock ones, hence the need for the guide plates. About the only way I'll know if anything's wrong at this point is if something breaks. I flushed the coolant, and I'm going to change the oil filter after about 100 miles of easy driving, before I drive it hard. One last thing I need to fix first. I've fallen prey to the dreaded broken belt tensioner. It still works, but is kinda soft, so I need a new one to keep the belt from slipping.'97 Grand Prix GT 3800 (sold)
