  • Crane Gold Race Roller Rockers on 3400

Well it is done. My Friend and I have stuffed a set of Crane Gold Race Roller Rockers on Gen III heads. We used Gen II guide plates and cut off the plastic ones that are formed into the gasket (they get in the way). We had to grind down the intake runners where they actually touched the back of the rocker arm. We maybe took off 1/8" of material. The rockers clear the valve covers no problem.

So if anyone wants to know YES they work and all you need is a die grinder

So are we the first to do this? So far I think so

What year heads and intake did you use? I thought with the 3400 stuff roller rockers would not hit the intake.

Stock roller rockers don't hit the intake. Crane Gold roller rockers have a little bit more beef to them...

Crane has both 1.5 and 1.6 roller rockers for the 60º engines.
I plan on sticking these on my own motor yet as well, but the rear valve cover clearance is my biggest concern.
              And like everybody else....got pics??

Actuall Crane rockers fit great NO modification on a 3.1L. They used to be in my friends 3.1L and now they are in the 3400.

The only advantage they have over 3400 rockers is reduced weight, stronger construction and a roller tip. The ratio is the same.

Pics will come as soon as we use up the roll. Sorry we are not digital yet.

Really??? Even a 3.1 MPFI aluminum head FWD set up??? I thought they'd hit the intake manifold like yours, and possibly that low part on the rear valve cover.
If they fit, I'd be quite happy in deed!
                    Thanks!

well actually im willing to bet the ratio is probably a hair better..

Stock Factory rockers are not always known for their exact preciseness...

Howell Automotive tested the 2200 (2.2)4 cyls 1.6:1 ratio roller rockers (similar to the v6 pedestal roller rocker) and the ACTUAL ratio of them was 1.54:1 not the stock advertised 1.6:1.
so it is possible to theoretically say the ratio might actually be a true 1.6:1... someone should test the stockers on the 3X00's and see if they are the exact ratio or not. would be interesting to see. or possibly maybe the stockers are exactly 1.6:1. who knows.

did you have to chage the push rods at all on the 3400 or did you just bolt on the studs and rockers?
