  • Newbie (sort of) question

I hear good things about this site, and I come from MyMonte.

I'm looking at a few problems with my car, so I figure why not check over here is anyone has done it.

(yes, I searched in case anyone cared)

I'm facing having to replace the intake manifold gaskets due to leakage on my car. Since I'll have the manifolds off, I figure why not throw a set of P&P 3400 upper and lowers on while I'm at it. My question isn't if they will fit, but what would I have to do to make them fit, and what else other than TB would need to be done? I hear there might be some slight machining involved.

    Any help/suggestions would be welcomed!

Since you have a 99, you won't have any machining to do. Machining is only required when trying to do this swap onto an engine that comes stock with stamped rockers.

As far as other things, go with 99 3400 parts (Transport, Venture, etc). That way you won't have any issues with the EGR since it is the same year as you currently have. Everything should just bolt up with no problem. You don't really need to do anything with the TB. Your stock one will bolt up just fine. And going to the 3400's 56mm TB really won't provide you with that much improvement over the stock 52mm, especially if you are working with an overall relatively stock engine. You can upgrade later, but its not something that has to be done at the same time as the top end swap.

Thanks a lot for the help. I might go with a 62mm TB to help out the intake and the 2.5" exhaust I already have. Fixing the problems before I have fun is top priority though!
