haha!!! that's halarious!!! now, how do we know that will work? and what a locater, the valve seat?
A shim with a rise in the ID (to hold the spring from the inside) is a locator (like the brass pieces earlier). A cup is shim with a lip on the OD that holds the spring in....
Why would I make something like that up? That is what I have here for the newer heads. Its thicker so its like a .015 shim compared to the copper/brass shim used on the other heads.
I'm not saying you made it up. I was referring to the webpage. I may be missing something, but I didn't see anything saying it was for anything specific. Is it a generic part?
To clarify... The gap between the shim and the seat is about .022 It would be the exhaust valves on cylinders 1 and 6. The valve stems are also sticking up about .022 beyond the retainer, which is less concerning.
I'm gonna pull both exaust valves again and dremel the inside of the locator to get a flush seat, but I though others may want to know if you encounter 99 heads, or something was up when these valve guides were being pressed into the heads on the line...
Digging up an aged thread. While starting on my heads to clean them up for selling, I noticed something that irritated me a tad:
Notice anything odd? The seals that I installed are the felpro "viton" seals (SS72685). Exhaust - 70819 (left)
Intake - 93734 (right)
Here is a bit of a closer pic:
Below are pics of the intake and exhaust guides:
Valve guide OD - .512
Valve stem OD - .312
Measurements for above is for both intake and exhaust. Notice the "step" in the guides. Perhaps these are not 99 heads? I did send them off long ago for P&P, maybe I got a set to 2000+ back?
Pic of an exhaust seal that cam off the guide, spring still on. No way did the springs move to "lift" the seal off the guide. Only 1 exhaust seal did not come off, and all the intake seals were just fine.
If they really are 99 heads, given the valve guide OD on both intake and exhaust being the same, why the different seals for intake and exhaust?
Well it looks like you bought old 3.1 mpfi seals, and I don't know of those heads have the same stem diameter but if the seals are different aparently not. I used Dodge seals on my 05 3500 and didn't have any issues. The two intake exhaust stems are the same diameter as each other 99 or 2000+ they are just different sizes between the years. I'm not sure which set of seals should be used on 99 and older heads.

iirc 99 and older heads can use the 3.1 MPFI seals, 00+ heads need the 2.2 cavy seals or the Dodge seals i guess...
