  • 3500 intake on 3400 lower manifold..

i know this has been discussed before but i could not find it. how hard would it be to put the new 3500 upper intake on a 3400 lower? i remember something about using a ford mustang throttle body? i want to do the 3400 swap but do not want to use a 3400 intake since i do not have a 3400. thanx for any help

It would be cheaper to just find the 00+ 3100 plenum.

RE: 3500 intake on 3400 lower manifold..

i wouldnt care too much about the money. i really dont like the way the 3x00 upper intakes look. im old school and kinda like the flat top of my 3.1 and thats one reason i like the 3500, plus it doesnt say what size it is on the manifold. anyone have a part number for the 3500 upper? i know it may be a challenge but i think it would be worth it.

          Its not hard.

You just have to clearance the throttle body neck on the 3500 plenum to fit it on with the old style fuel rail. The 3500's don't have a fuel rail mounted FPR compared to the 3x00's. So it hits it and has to be clearanced.

Otherthan that, The coil pack brackets are now in a different location. so the stocker setup doesn't bolt on the same to the old studs on the head. The throttle body does not bolt up either.
But otherwise it does just bolt up.

i have a beretta and when i did my 5-speed swap and JBP header install i moved the coils to where the cruise control was so the coil placement wouldnt be an issue. i guess slight modification to the neck wouldnt be too bad. what kind of throttle body will work with that plenum? i know it comes with throttle by wire.
