  • Am I going to have problems with my 3500 plenum?

    Hi Guys
I just want to know if I am going to have problems adding a turbo system with my 3500 plenum with the 4.3 70mm tb because I got some pictures of a turbo setup i want to do on my sunfire and here is the pictures I want to use for my setup and these pictures are from tejohnson:
and now if i add the 3500 plenum with the spacer and the tb would that be to long for that type of setup?

I would say it would be close. Most likely you will have to move the battery if it is on the side of the car next to the fender.

Might I also suggest that you use 2gauge power and ground cables , as so the distance between the battery and the trunk will not limit your current. Install a 200 amp fuse link between the engine bay and batt, and install a Disconnect switch in the engine bay. So you can just flip a lever and work on whatever, change the batt, or do your stereo install etc.

Summit or maybe this store could set up you up with a battery box. You will have to mount that SECURLY, somehow. I would suggest using the spare tire well in the trunk if you do not use it, as it is the lowest part in the trunk and centerd, so adding wieght there is the best. Take the ends that normally go on the batt in the engine bay, hook those to the disconnect switch, from the switch it goes thru the fuse, all the way back to the batt. Ground SHOULD run all the way back to the engine bay to connect to the main ground cable, but generally you do not want long ground leads on a chassis ground system. These are just my thoughts on it, I'm sure someone on this site has "done the deed" and can help out here.

also I will have a big stereo hook up 2 so would relocating the battery be good enough for this?

I would say so, but again, make sure you are using 2 gage or bigger cable for the run from the trunk to the engine. The batt being closer to your amp is actually a good thing, less line loss and more stable current from the batt. If you have a big stero, i would upgrade the cable off the alternator to a 4 gage or bigger to that distribution/throw swtich plate i reconmened in the engune bay, so it will carry more current off the alternator, then that will run through the 2 gauge to the batt, as the distance is longer now for the alternator to charge the batt, it will need all the help it can get.

                  I thought that looked familiar...

My battery is in the trunk. Just used the Summit relocation kit. The Red Top didn't fit in the box, but it is SLA, so I just used the rods, drilled holes in the trunk floor, large washers, pieces of rubber, and RTV to seal. Works out nice. The alternator has been rewound to 160 amp.

I used to have a circuit breaker. 200amp. They work pretty well, but that was for a second battery.
                  Regards,

Moving the battery to the trunk is one of the worst things to do for the setereo and other electronics in a vehicle.

The battery does more than just store energy, it also filters out AC ripple and suppresses any voltage spikes that might occur. Keepin the battery close to the alaternator is best.

Now ADDING a second battery close to the amp is good for the (audio) system.

My recomendation would be move the battery to the other side of teh engine bay or use smaller battery(ies) to keep it/them up front.

Ive had my battery in the trunk for 3+ years no with no issues, Exide Dry Cell 4ga wire and a 200amp wafer fuse.

trust me, you wont have much room with that turbo sitting right there for the 3500 plenum and the 4.3 tb.

Yeah, when you start doing serious engine mods you need the extra room. I also used a summit relocation kit to put mine in the trunk. Been there for 3+ years with no problems. Comes with the large gauge wire and everything you need. I didn't like the box that came with the kit so I got a polished aluminum one from moroso, but just for looks. I put it in the back passenger side corner of the trunk, drilled some holes thru the bottom and bolted it down underneath with some large washers. That was the easiest spot to put it, and that spot gives the most weight offset to the extra weight I added in the engine compartment.
