  • Modifying 3.1 fuel press regulator

is it possible to gut the internals of a stock 3.1 fuel pressure regulator and use an aftermarket one after the fuel rail? i have been looking for an aftermarket one thats a direct fit and i guess no one makes one. i have replaced this piece 3 or 4 times. it would also be nice to be able to adjust the pressure.

    thanx

You can get a modified adjustable FPR from sappyse107 that is direct fit.

thats for a gen 3 3x00 motor, im sure he is talking about a gen 2 2.8/3.1l.

there is nothing i know of that will work. being the fact its integrat in the fuel rail, its kinda tough to adapt something. only thing i can think of is to gut the regulator out of it and use a regulator on the return line itself.

...or just do a 3400 top end swap, get an adjustable regulator for that.

i want to do the 3400 swap one of these days but for now i wanted an AFPR for this fuel rail. i kinda need to gut it if i put one in the return line because that little thing holds the 2 rails together to make it one piece. onless there was something i could do to keep the rail together without it.

There is a ghetto way of doing it which involves the original casing cut, a screw tapped to the top where the vacuum line is, a vacuum line added, and then the top put on with a penny on top of the spring. It will make it adjustable but it won't look good and its not going to be easy to adjust with the plenum on.

The only AFPR setups I have seen for it were installed after the rail on the return line. You can't go lower than stock pressure but you can raise it.

You can go lower than stock if you can gut the stock regulator and basically bypass it. Did it to my S-10 works great

That is a TBI regulator but it gives you an idea.
