  • Nitrous full throttle switch problem

Ok I'm running a search but I thought I would shoot the question out there to see if anyone else has dealt with this yet. I'm kind of ahead of myself but this seems to be a big issue for newer vechiles.

My 2005 Equinox has electronic throttle control so there is not anything I can put a switch to hit the nitrous at full throttle. There is just wires going to a small motor to open and close the throtle plate. Guess I need to come up with the present day.

The picture is a extreme close up of what I'm dealing with. Don't worry about whats behind it, had to pull of the motor cover to see the thing...

Anyone dealt with this? Guess I need something that reads the wires going to the throttle but I don't know where to start. [/img]

RE: Nitrous full throttle switch problem

Go old school and put the switch on the pedal.

I believe NOS makes a micro switch with a longer arm for this such thing.

Maybe I'm making this too easy?

Tap off the tach wire from the ICM and you should be all set.

Cant do that Brad. Nitrous Needs to come on at WOT only and right from the staging RPM.

If you got a low down on how the motor and signal work Im sure something could be done to read the throttle position voltage and trigger it

BTY is right, you can't use the RPM activated switch or window switch by itself, there needs to be the WOT switch, used to ensure it's ONLY activated at WOT.

Again, simplicity is best, switch on the pedal itself.

NX makes a switch that you wire into the TPS wires and it programs itself I beleive to know when WOT is and also when you are at idle.

Just wire that in and that should do it. REad the directions though.

Putting a switch on the pedal? Have you seen how small the switch is? You will break the thing when racing as ytou will be pushing hard down on the pedal.

Get the electronic WOT switch. Thats what its made for.

I think the issue is that the TPS is built into the electronic throttle control (which has its own standalone computer), so you can't just get a regular TPS switch.

I vote for a big red button on the steering wheel.

I also think you should put an auto eject button for the passenger.

                  And a smoke screen button

I grew up with Night Rider......

I think they make a switch that is only on as you press it, maybe for motorcycles?

I've installed many nitrous system, so yes I've seen how "small" the switch is.

There is no difference is "abuse" on the switch wether it is mounted on the TB or under/at the pedal.

Besides you can use any switch that is a normally open switch, again, NOS sells or at least used to sell a switch with a longer arm on it.

If you have a problem mounting this switch at the pedal, there is something wrong.

Jesus Christ guys. This is what I am talking about. Not that POS radio shack switch that NOS charges $20 for.

This actually wires into the wires for the electronic throttle control.

More cars are going with DBW systems so there is no throttle linkage like a conventional system. Thats what this was designed for. Welcome to 2005.

i am running a manual push button switch as of now, my plans are for a WOT switch to arm the manual push button. i dont trust WOT switches alone, as i have seen some hang open and end up detonating an engine.
Plus at the track, the push button is awesome for bracket race.

The push button is also nicer for traction, if you are spinning, just cut the nitrous with out lifting the pedal.

but be carefull, if you hold the button and lift throttle you have a good chance to have a few problems.

Or save your money and use the switch that comes with the kit, or if you don't have one, go to Radio Shack and grab one of those switches for a few bucks....

                          AGAIN, simplicity.

I will NEVER trust one of those devices that measures the resistance or voltage of a TPS, seen a few start flowing the nitrous when at idle, due to either a failure of the device, or a failure of the TPS itself, causing a WOT signal.

Everyone has a different opion on this subject. I seem to trust technology so I'll go with the Electronic WOT switch.

                              I trust technology too.

But anyway if you are worried about mashing the switch then dont mount it under the pedle thats dumb. Mount it up top where the cable connects. You'll never see it and it wont get abused.
