  • 3.4 FWD hybrid

this is a listing of what I am hoping to do to my '95 camaro after having checked multiple sources for relevant info .. everyone please take a look over it and inform me of any problems you see that I gloss over...
I am hoping to pull my 3.4 RWD motor and swap out the top end and pistons for some horsepower..

the heads are to be 2000 or later and will have to modify temp sensor wiring ..?...

the rockers from same motor as heads (hopefuly).. what pushrods?

the Lower intake manifold to be a 2000 or newer gasket matched to the heads and UIM ... heater hose mod only mod?...

the Upper intake to be a 2005 or newer 3500 gasket matched to the lower and matched to a 70mm S10 throttle body with an addaptor plate.. will this even work on my FWD application?...

the cam to be a crane powermax built for the RWD 3.4 as listed in jeg's/summit..hydraulic flat tappet .. unless someone knows a way to make a roller cam work (current info I have indicates and oiling problem to rear lifters preventing roller retrofits)

also a post somewhere mentioned phenolic spacers between upper and lower .. if so who makes them?... would like to be sure about having enough clearance and maybe some extra power... more power is always good

Thanks ahead of time for the time and patience needed to read this post .. I tend to be longwinded

Stear clean of the Crane Powermax 2030 or 2020. They are shitty cams.

The 260 or 272 is a much better choice.

thanks for the link ... I assume that since you posted that link where he uses '96 3100 parts they are virtually the same as later 3400 parts .. although the rockers he used appear to be stamped steel not the later model years roller tip units ... what pushrods are used with the roller tips ?.. I assume not stock since the roller tips are used with the roller cam .. so aren't the lifters a different height?

TY for the cam advice I'll keep it in mind.. although I don't want to go super radical high rpm cam .. just something a little peppier than the stock piece.. truthfully I'd love to use the later model stock roller cam and lifters if there is a definite way to solve the rear oiling problem...

If you use the stock gen3 roller rockers you will need custom length pushrods.

If you use either a set of Adjustable rockers from Comp or Crane you can use the stock gen2 pushrods.

if you want something better than stock go wtih the Crane H-260, or the Comp 16-233-4 cam. The Crane 2020/30's are basically just stock really.

yeah, pretty much have decided that. do you have the turbo with the 272? if so, what kind of power band do you have?

not sure you'll need to spin that fast to make power. i've seen boosted engines HP peak drop about 500 RPM--not all of them. kinda weird. i'd fig that if you are forcing more air, that would extend HP peak 500 or so.

when you say drop 500rpms you talking from redline
i'm not really upping the redline that much, 300 cause 6200 was the tgp redline from what a really reliable source told me.

but the 272 will be and mid-upper rpm range, and thats good for me, sacrifice some of the down low to keep a little traction hopefully if any

no, i was talking HP peak. i'm referring to the SRT-4 when they added more boost and such. it went from 5200 down to 4700 HP peak. don't undersand why.

i hear that traction deal. from a dead stop and good tires, i can smoke the tires some. red line is just a max limit for the engine. either rods or valve train. dosen't mean it'll make power there. i sure do remember the Cav RS 3.1 5 spd. redline was 6000. i ran it there once in 2nd gear and after 5500, i wasn't sure if it was going to get up to 6000. that was amazing. i've never experienced a car that fell on its face that hard!
